Interesting tidbits 1920-1940
Edited on Fri Dec-10-10 07:15 PM by undergroundpanther
What we need NOW.

Pump-priming: Supported by Roosevelt, this theory pumped governmental money to the poor so they could buy products. This would increase sales and cause a demand for that product. This demand in turn will produce jobs for the poor. Now that the poor have jobs they have the necessary income to buy products and this cycle occurs again.

Why we don't get this help:
Wealthy elitists have cherished but toxic & evil beliefs that that put them in a cognitive dissonant conflict when it comes to helping others they want to pick and choose but they cannot lest their evil beliefs be exposed(Eugenics ,social Darwinism where they always declare themselves as the fittest& the best of humanity).

And America isn't as white,patriarchal,or christian as it was back when the new deal came about.
The 60's hadn't happened yet...

Theodore Roosevelt Who proposed the new deal also said :

I agree with you…that society has no business to permit degenerates to reproduce their kind…Some day, we will realize that the prime duty, the inescapable duty, of the good citizen of the right type, os to leave his or her blood behind him in the world; and that we have no business to permit the perpetuation of citizens of the wrong type (Black 99).(War against the weak)

Liberty League: This group was made of conservative Democrats who were against the economic and fiscal policies of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal. It lasted for four years and was composed of famous members like Alfred E. Smith and John W. Davis. Ending in 1940, they supported the Republican candidate, Alf Landon.

( I think it didn't end,it just became hidden..I think the liberty league became the DLC third way crap, the blue dogs and corpodems)

"Roosevelt recession": Although the economy improved in 1936 and early 1937, it once again fell back in mid 1937, when industrial production and steel output declined, and unemployment statistics increased. Some of the major factors of this recession were federal policies that greatly reduced consumer income.

(History is..repeating ..again..)

(Reagan didn't make this shit up Hoover of hoovervilles did)
Trickle Down Theory: Applied by Herbert Hoover, the Trickle Down theory was an economic ideal which held the belief that the government should get involved in the economy by pumping money into it, and thus creating a surplus supply of money that would "trickle" down onto the rest of society.

Voluntarism: Hoover believed that a socially responsible economic order could only be brought about by the voluntary action of capitalist leaders and not through governmental persuasion. Hoover saw this as a way to accelerate the decade’s trend towards corporate consolidation and cooperation.

("Sound Familiar?")
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"court packing" proposal": This proposal was announced by Franklin D. Roosevelt allowing the president to appoint new Supreme Court members for each one over 70 years of age, totaling six in all. After Chief Justice Evan Hughes’ leadership in expressing their disapproval in this plan, Congress and the American people disapproved of the action as well. This resulted in some New Dealers leaving the president’s side and humiliated President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Republicans have exploited the court packing proposal...
"Rugged Individualism"; American Individualism, 1922: The ideal quality which every American should possess. "rugged individualism" meant people who were self made individuals, who could handle Text the pressures given by a damaged society,Text and who would rise above them in order to succeed. These ideas were encompassed in Hoover’s book.
(If you can't succeed it's YOUR own fault bullshit)
First Credit Cards Appear
Bank Of America Creates the Americard which later becomes Visa
First Credit Card : The concept of paying for goods using a card started in 1950 and the main cards available in the United States in the early years were Diners Card and American Express, both required full payment at the end of the month so were only provided to the most financially respected consumers , in 1958 Bank of America created the BankAmericard which later became Visa and in 1966 Master card followed which allowed for payment of a fraction of the credit outstanding with interest charged on the outstanding balance.
Current Facts re: Credit Cards :
USA 144 million credit cards held in 2003
In 1990, average amount in credit card debt was about $2,550 for those households that carried a balance.
In 2003, average amount in credit card debt was about $7,520 – an increase of nearly 200 percent!
UK In the UK 59 million people hold some 67 million credit cards, meaning the average person has more than one credit card.
Excerpts of a letter from the future...
....stability itself was a major cause. It gave rise to a politically stultified population that was easily overwhelmed by the focused determination of a relatively small group of zealots....
........(who's simple messages and charisma) in the face of an otherwise bewildering diversity of choice.......
Many people in the United States had simply grown tired of freedom. They were uncomfortable with the ambiguity and the cacophony of voices that make up a healthy democracy.
Even easier than offering (simplicity) it, they imposed it.
3. "Priming the pump" with food stamps!
For every Federal Dollar spent on food stamps, $1.74 is returned to the local economy.
How's that for pumping?!
Unemployment payments and subsidized housing have a similar return, with subsidized housing creating a LOT of jobs.
WIN/WIN, but "progressives" aren't interested. :(
