OK. Go ahead and knock Dem candidates
Reagan had the wisdom of the 11th commandment.

But some of you wish to knock our candidates. Go for it.

You're only hurting our party and America's future.

6. Why shouldn't Dems like the candidates?
Voting for them is a different matter.

7. I keep wondering about this too.
All that the shitstorm today has made me feel is less fond of anyone involved. The best move is clearly to back the people we want but not attack others...Mudslinging in primaries makes basically no sense.

9. I don't know. I just know we have to shut up and support them. Even when
they are wrong. I wonder if that includes Biden today.

12. Were you talking to me?
Edited on Thu Feb-01-07 03:52 AM by FrenchieCat
Because if you were, we can either finish our discussion in this thread, or we can go back to the thread in where you accused me dissing Dems.

Here's were you did made the comment:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=98095&mesg_id=98204

and here's is how I responded:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=98095&mesg_id=98524

We were talking policy/Iraq.....and you got personal, as though
you have made yourself in charge of "protecting" politicians and
that you have the right to stifle debate.

So I'll ask you again, if this thread is referring to me?
And If it is, then where do you want to take this?

22. She's not protecting politicians, Frenchie - she's only protecting
her favorite.

I don't think I saw her protecting Biden yesterday. And I don't think I've seen her protect any of the other Dem hopefuls in recent weeks - only Edwards.

And, she does him no favors "protecting" him from people who have serious questions about the way he conducted himself in the Senate. He's going to have to answer for it, himself, and it's going to get to the point where and "Oops. I'm sorry" response isn't enough.

16. This is DU.
Edited on Thu Feb-01-07 04:48 AM by FrenchieCat
It is on Republican boards that everyone agrees with the GOP and rationalize all that they do as being good and just.

Here at DU, we have debates, try to keep them intelligent, try to provide facts that back up our assertions, and I believe that this is a good thing.

Liberalism is not a concept that includes that one party would be struck with a devine inspiration and that all should then get behind them in lockstep.

Now there is such thing as civility and rules that we should go by, and DU has such rules. One things that it states is that public figures are not protected here at DU, although DUers should not insult each other.

I follow those rules.

OP is basically saying that we should all support all that Dems do...I guess. I don't agree with that.

At the same time, if something is an outright lie, then it shouldn't stand.

Erika however has decided that we can't simply disagree.....and if we do, far as she's concerned it is slamming and dissing.

I disagree.

No lies, But difference in views on policy and what it all means is not the same thing.

17. OK Frenchie You Have A Point
And so do the others. I really hate the primaries for this reason. Perhaps we do need a rule, but it isn't the 11th Commandment. I'd prefer the "Golden Rule" and that we debate on important issues and defend all the candidates (especially our) against the inevitable spin of their words, mannerism, living arrangements and whatever else might come up. We can practice during the primaries for what is to come during the elections. Then perhaps, just perhaps, we can overcome the right wing rhetoric that they throw at us. How about it everyone?

But right now, some of our candidates are attacking each other....so what do you do about that?

19. I Say We Teach Them The Golden Rule
only real issues are attackable. And we get that message across by sticking up for candidates who are unfairly attaked. That said, many of our candidates are attackable on the issues. They better have some good answers. Perhaps we need to define our issues (house size is not one of mine).

21. I Agree In Part
I am just searching for solutions to what happens to us Dems during the primaries. It is as if we turn on each other and arm Freepers in so doing. That said, I think it equally awful to ignore real potential downfalls that the candidates have, especially on the issues.

As a "Deaniac", I am still appalled at how MY Democratic party turned on Dean for nothing (what the heck, a dang,"Yahoo"). What the heck was that about? I would still like an explanation from Dems that went along.

But, I feel that those that supported this war must answer to it. And there is no way that the answers I have seen so far for that, lead me to believe that any of those that did have a valid reason for doing so. Then again, a valid reason for killing thousands of innocent Iraqi men, women and children and American soldiers might be tough to come by, these days. But let them give it a try, I willing to listen. I just need one valid reason, just one. So candidates that voted for the to allow Bush the authority to get us into this quagmire, give me a valid reason for allowing the killing (or murder) of innocent Iraqis and American soldiers and I will give you a pass.
