Vets Check In - What are you doing on Memorial Day?
I am cooking up a storm in the back yard and watching war movies with friends.

What are your plans for Memorial Day?

1. I'm gonna read Gore's new book.
"The Assault on Reason".

I am particularly looking forward to exploring his nearly 300 footnotes.

Then, armed with that good information, I plan to make several posts on another board where there are some RWers. I have been having some success there arguing with these RWers, toning them down, embarassing them occasionally.

I fully expect that Gore's book will give me some good information to post there.

It's my way to try to end this idiotic war and bring the troops home.

2. I am going to buy it payday
This so-called war is a travesty of justice. Gore on one of the shows where he appeared said that he conceeded so that there would not be a revolution, I wonder how close we are or are we going to drift into being totalitarian?

22. interesting
I am surprised you don't' get kicked off. Some sites can't handle information that is not to their liking or thinking. They even make you agree to their terms prior to gaining access.

Glad to hear you are having some success with them. Keep it up!

25. It's not a political site.
It's a college sports discussion board with an "Off Topic" board for political and other discussions. Pretty much anything goes on the Off Topic board.

What's really interesting is that back in 2002-03, the RWers were in their glory, and the pro-bushite posts were probably 5-1 over the good guys,

These days it's 5-1 FOR the good guys.

Progress.

Thanks for the good words!

7. What we used to feed our pooch
he lived to seventeen, was food scraps, and cheap cubed meat cooked with rice, and at times added carrots or any other veggie

As I said, he lived to the ripe young age of seventeen (we feed what we eat to the birds and our tiel is 19, did I mention they are suposed to live from 15 to 20)

9. Yes, I'm homemaking brown rice and organic chicken for ours now
I make six days' worth and freeze it. Chicken is steamed. Last batch I threw in carrots. We can't feed scraps because the girl has a pancreas problem, she's on a very fat restricted diet, and I don't want to risk the same with her brother. Just thought I'd try homemade kibble as a way of extending the 'wet' food...It gets mighty expensive!

I hope our two live as long as yours. 17 is wonderful! Was he a small dog?

13. Me too.
I got out just before the Iraqi invasion. They lifted the stop-loss for about 6 months and I took my chances. Never been happier but sad for my mates who had to stay in and keep their mouths shut about the "Commander" in chief. What an ass.

Drafted in '69. Boy did that suck. Did my 2 years and got out.

I'll be visiting my father's grave today. WWII submariner in the Pacific, six successful War Patrols. We just laid him to rest last year on Election Day.

Let's lift a glass today for the men and women who are on active duty today, and another for all the other vets who are no longer with us! :toast:

19. I'll check in for hubby - he's doing the same thing as you.
I swear, if I see John Wayne one more time, I'm gonna puke.

You guys and your war movies. I mean - if they were half-way realistic, I might get it, but I was reading last night while he was watching, I think it was, "The Flying Leathernecks" (does that sound right) and the music and acting were just hokey. :) (I know, flog me now. I put down John Wayne. LOL!)

Oh, well, you're the vets - watch what you want and thank you for your service.

26. Top war movies of all time
In no particular order:

Patton
The Longest Day
Stalag 17 & Escape from Sobibor
Bridge on the River Kwai
Tora! Tora! Tora!
Battle of the Bulge

If watching with non-vets, include Gone with the Wind, one of my all-time favorites.

Those are all excellent. I get the feeling some of the other movies were made just to make a few bucks.
