Poland to probe if Teletubbies are gay

WARSAW (Reuters) - Poland's conservative government took its drive to curb what it sees as homosexual propaganda to the small screen on Monday, taking aim at Tinky Winky and the other Teletubbies.

Ewa Sowinska, government-appointed children rights watchdog, told a local magazine published on Monday she was concerned the popular BBC children's show promoted homosexuality.

She said she would ask psychologists to advise if this was the case.

In comments reminiscent of criticism by the late U.S. evangelist Jerry Falwell, she was quoted as saying: "I noticed (Tinky Winky) has a lady's purse, but I didn't realize he's a boy."

"At first I thought the purse would be a burden for this Teletubby ... Later I learned that this may have a homosexual undertone."

The people currently in charge are just unhinged on the subject of gay people and homosexuality in general.

and religion was actively suppressed for 40 years. This is just an overreaction to having the lid taken off.

It's why that's one of the few countries in the world that still pretty much supports Stupid.

Stuff like assigning a homosexual agenda to sexless puppets is one of the things that will start waking people up. It's SO over the top that it will be very difficult for any rational human being to support it.

My goodness, it's like they think that homosexuality is like a virus or something. Strange folks in this world, when you just sit back and listen to it, it just sounds so nuts.

When the Nazis invaded Poland, Poland still maintained regiments of horse cavalry. Very tough, brave individuals, the Polish cavalrymen worked as mounted infantry in the first few days of the invasion.

At Krojanty, elements of the 18th Uhlans Regiment attacked and destroyed a German infantry battalion. The Nazis counterattacked with a Panzer regiment. After the Panzers kicked the shit out of the 18th Uhlans, Axis propaganda organs started a rumor that the Poles had attempted to mount a cavalry charge against a Panzer regiment. Obviously, anyone who would try fighting tanks on horseback must be the dumbest fucks on the face of the earth.

'Course, the Nazis left out the fact that the Poles had 37mm Böfors antitank guns--plenty good against German panzers--which were crewed by proficient men. The Poles killed a lot of Nazi tanks...unfortunately for the Polish Army, the German Army was mechanized while the Poles were largely footsoldiers, and the Poles ultimately got reamed.

The reason for all the Polish jokes? Prescott Bush's business partners.

Seriously, Poland has been a literate and civilized country for a very, very long time. It saddens me to see the their current leadership embarrass them in this fashion.

I had MASSIVE problems with this show, none of which had anything to do with whether it was "homosexual," but with the fact that the characters weren't doing anything educational or beneficial enough for my toddler to watch.

It's a pretty stupid show for kids, if you ask me.

In fact, it reminds me of how filmmakers of the 60s portrayed as someone on an LSD trip. LOL!

I don't mind Barney but the Teletubbies are obnoxious waste of air space. They're mindless eye candy for younguns. That's the only kid's program I will never let my 2 yr old sons watch. Besides, they enjoy the nature programs much better and they're better for them.

Aside from that, the whole gay teletubbies thing is idiotic. It's amazing how homophobic straight folks get their gaydar focused on a fuzzy purple foam critter.

Their "never-miss" shows were "3-2-1 Contact".. "The Electric Company" & "mr. Rogers' Neighborhood".

Sesame Street was in its infancy then, and sometimes they watched it, but the others were their favorites :)

There's always been a scary undercurrent of fascism in Poland, and it's getting worse. A friend is Polish, and she says this stuff scares her relatives very much. They already survived the Nazis and the Communists.

Most of the other countries in the EU are respectful of gay people and gay issues in their countries. If the Polish government wants to pursue this kind of hateful crap, they should be told, unambiguously, that these officially sanctioned attitudes in their country are wrong.

(New York, June 5, 2006) – Recent threats by Polish officials against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals and organizations threaten everyone’s basic freedoms, Human Rights Watch said today in a letter to Prime Minister Kasimierz Marcinkiewicz.

Last week Poland’s State Prosecutor instructed local prosecutors in five municipalities to launch sweeping investigations into the conduct of “homosexuals” on unspecified allegations of “pedophilia.” Human Rights Watch said that anti-gay actions and comments by numerous officials constitute a pattern of repression in Poland.

“Poland’s leaders have stoked the fires of homophobic hatred to advance their political careers,” said Scott Long, director of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Rights Program at Human Rights Watch. “The continuing calls to restrict a minority’s basic freedoms threaten the fabric of democracy.”

In a letter sent on May 12, Wojciech Wierzejski, a member of parliament whose extremist League of Polish Families party sits in government, urged the justice and interior ministries to investigate the LGBT organizations’ activities and financing. Wierzejski claimed that “the homosexual community’s agenda is to propagate deviant attitudes among youth, and – what is worse – they are connected to a world of quasi-criminal character, including pedophilia.”
