Eeek! Maybe no book.
:(

Everyone think good thoughts. Apparently, a similar book is coming out this fall, and the committee is meeting again on Tuesday to review a copy (they got an advance one somehow) and my proposal and decide if they really do want to go forward or not. There are significant differences, but they're worried that they won't be significant enough, since my book would come out after the other one.

Think good thoughts, send good vibes, and clap your hands. I really want to write this, but if this publisher decides not to, I'm pretty sure no one else will take a chance, either.

2. I'm really trying not to despair.
I can see good arguments for both sides, so I'm nervous. Really nervous.

3. Maybe in a year or two?
Are techniques going to change all that much? Maybe you'll wind up being the flavor of the month on their next round of craft stuff.

4. I'm hoping they'll decide that having more than one book is okay.
It's not like it's not needed, and it sounds like the overlap really isn't much. I hope they figure out a way to keep going forward, even if that means a major change to my book.

5. I was supposed to hear yesterday and didn't.
I'm trying not to get upset, since it might just be that the editor has to check with someone who wasn't at the meeting (like last time), but she usually gets back to me quickly when it's good news and slowly when it's not. *sigh*

7. Update: still shaky, but forward progress.
The committee decided they didn't like the similarities, so they said that they'd have to pass on my proposal. When I talked with the editor, though, we came up with several ideas on how to change things so that the book would still be good and not too similar. I have to re-write a bunch of stuff, write a bunch of new stuff, and then submit it again to see if the committee will take it in a new form.

This book stuff is a lot harder than I thought. I knew there'd be tons of editing and re-writes, but not this early in the game.
