Strictly vanity- (pic of my new baby)
What a sweet man I married, he surprised me at 7am this morning to go on a Featherweight hunt. I've been looking for one in this shape for years and this newer('55) one is almost too perfect to use. No restoration, no cleaning, no adjusting. Plug and play, woo hoo! :bounce:

7. Quilters adore the featherweights for 2 reasons
they only sew straight stitch and they are very portable.

When you look at a regular machine today, the hole where the needle goes is quite wide, to acomodate the zigzag stitch. The featherweight only has a hole that is slightly larger than the needle. If you've ever started sewing at the end of a piece of fabric, you'll understand that the larger the hole, the easier that the fabric will get sucked into that little hole.

And, quilters like to quilt all over the place and the featherweight is great for that. It's a solidly built machine with a very good looking straight stitch........a quilters dream.

5. I've got 2 just like yours!
One is in a cabinet (3 drawers on the right) but it's kinda frozen up. The other is a portable in a wood case that works fine. Do you have the box of attachments that goes with it?

:hi:

6. Aren't they a great little machine?
This one will be my summer picnic table machine. It came will all the accessories, only missing the original sales receipt and oil can. I'd already collected the zig-zagger, buttonholer and extra bobbin case/feet from yard sales. Made a promise to myself of no more crafting until the taxes are done, I'll be flying through that awful paperwork today. Then I can get started on the more important things, like a quilted extension bed cover for it :-)

9. Beautiful!

I have my mom's '51 Featherweight, and up until last year when my son surprised me with a new Brother that has computer stitching, needle threader, etc., it was the only machine I used for over 30 years.

Mine still has the original case, book, attachments (including the quilter and ruffler), and bobbins. I still love it, but have to admit, creating window treatemnts on the new machine is a lot smoother.

Enjoy that Featherweight! That was one of Singer's best, IMO :hi:

I wonder whatever happened to that...

11. I don't have the featherweight, but
I can understand where you are coming from. They just don't make sewing machines like they used to. I had someone give me a Singer 501 a couple of years ago. I love it! Who needs those fancy computerized sewing machines anyway???
