If you ride the highways, how do you ride?

Highway Definition: 3 lanes each way, busy, rush hour type stuff.

I'm a 55-60 right laner personally (except to get away from merging traffic). That has actually spilled over to my truck since gas is so expensive. You want to get around me?

Do it.

Just let me cruise along at a safe pace.

A LOT of bikers pass me doing 75+, switching lanes. Not for me. I'm happy 'in my place' :D

I'm a right side of the right lane person myself, its generally the only spot that will give you somewhere to go if everything turns to shit. I stay with traffic, if its going slow then so do I, but if its moving fast then I'm going to be right there with it.

When I'm out riding in the country where I can do anything I want within the constraints of the road itself I tend to ride a bit on the fast side but rarely exceed 100 mph. I just love draggin' footpegs but now and then I get passed like I'm standing still; some of those new bikes are plain and simple scary-fast. Oh to be young again.

One of the very best motorcycle roads in the US (Old Rt. 50) is less than 30 minutes from here and the temptation is great. However in honest full disclosure I have to tell you this, on the right side its the tip of my exhaust that grounds out first and on the left its the sidestand that's the first to shed metal.

Nothin' I can do about it, that's just the way its got to be.

when I commute to work. I usually stay in the center lane, staying with traffic. The right lane has too much action, with entrance and exit ramps. Then I watch traffic all the time, seeing who's crazy, who's on the phone, that sort of thing. And watching for gaps in traffic in case I have to brake or accellerate out of trouble (that's when 1200cc motor comes in handy).

I leave the house around 5:30am, so there's not much traffic. But traffic is usually moving around 75mph. Once we enter the city, the limit drops to 55, so traffic slows to 70. Coming home, there's a lot more traffic and much slower.

Let me make a confession to you. When you see my geriatric ass honkin' down the road at 100mph on the old Harley that's really about all I've got left in me but when I see a young guy blastin' by at 140 with his front wheel in the air I'm eatin' my heart out with envy.

...I'm no spring chicken myself :D

I just like to leave the traffic behind me when I can, especially taking the turnpike from Tulsa to Oklahoma City on Monday mornings. If I get out of town soon enough and stay on it, I'll stay ahead of most of it...If not, the last half of the trip turns into a congested mess :(

It would take me more than two hours to even reach a four-lane highway. :)

My commute has a 20-minute dirt road option and a 10-minute pavement option. I usually opt for the former... saw a guy right in front of me coming the other way hit a deer on a bike on the pavement one, now I'm quite paranoid.

Although, to be fair there are a lot of pickups on the dirt road who aren't too careful coming around the turns. It all keeps you on your toes.

The rally-style bike is built to eat up the washboard dirt road like it's not even there, so I'm more comfortable on that. Even when exceeding the posted limit. A bit.

10. I avoid interstates

but when I do have to travel on them I tend to stay in the center or left lane and travel a few miles per hour over the limit. I'd rather power out of a situation than brake.
