Geothermal Power and MagLev Trains
Hello everybody. This is my first post to this topic.

I'm surprised that there isn't a "Green Energy" and/or "Green Jobs" topic. How can we go about creating one?

I'm writing to tell you about our new non-profit organization, the Adminicus Green Jobs Consortium. We are dedicated to promoting green energy and green jobs, particularly through the development of deep-earth, closed-loop, geothermal electric generation stations. Central to our overall investment plan is using some of the power generated by this plant to drive a high-speed MagLev train, similar to the one in Shanghai. This would both stimulate economic development along the rail line, and also serve as a high-voltage transport corridor for the electricity itself.

If you support these goals, become a free member of our consortium and give us a "Like" on Facebook.

Thanks, and I look forward to fielding any questions people may have about our organization or its goals.

1. Hi Dave... I stopped by and read this...
I normally don't, but I will from now on, stop by because I've got similar concerns.

I'll check out your link, and in the meantime, I believe the rules have something about getting enough posters behind the idea of a new topic / forum.

I'll be glad to support a green industry or job creation forum. :hi:

2. Great, thanks
Yea, I think Green Energy / Green Jobs would be a great topic, and I think it would generate significant support, and help build DU's relevance to the debate going on.

A lot of the discussion is "how much we should spend on infrastructure", and we want to add "how much should we spend on green energy".

Everyone wants job-creation programs. Green energy is one thing we HAVE to spend money on, like it or not, Republican denials of scientific reality or not.

3. Plus, if you look at the cost of drilling the Marcellus in our state...
... (see Pittsburgh Post Gazette's excellent series on this beginning in yesterday's paper) I just don't know HOW anyone can justify drilling 8,000 feet below under pressure, using techniques that are frankly life-threatening and have caused infiltration of clean water, using 8 million gallons per well, trucking contaminated water for the drilling processed to be "purified" over cracking roads, using farm land and providing a pittance for land rights in the process...

When, right HERE on the surface of the earth a few hundred meters up there is WIND and SOLAR to harvest and jobs to enable this unlimited source of energy.

We better start this conversation ourselves here and see whether the interest grows.

4. How to get a new DU Group started

You're probably better off posting in the main environment/energy forum, as it will be seen by more people than it would here. As the guy who suggested this group, I feel it's only fair to warn you that it can take quite some time to get your 10 recs from DU donors, especially now, since the depression means a lot of people can't afford to donate. But keep at it, you'll get there eventually.
