Allow me to give thanks to some of the posters here

If one is wondering what this post is all about, allow me to fill you in.

Some time ago I caved in to getting a cellphone from Verizon. I had moved from one area to another and my previous carrier, UNICEL, didn't have network presence there. I was not happy about it. After looking at the big-name carriers I didn't see much difference in either contract service or pay-as-you-go. AT&T and Verizon were nearly identical and T-Mobile/Sprint didn't have as good a network and a number of people had complained endlessly about problems with Sprint.

I went with Verizon Pay-as-you-go. I flat out despise cellphone contracts. The only advantage was that my two other siblings also had Verizon and I could talk to them without loosing minutes. What sucked was that if you have Verizon you get hit with a $2/day fee just to use their network in a 24 hour period. So even if you get one cellphone call in a day and it lasts only 1 minute, you still get charged $2 and the $.10/minute for the phone call. In other words, you loose 20 minutes of talking time. Get one call each day for three days and you loose a whole hour of talk time just for the privilege of using Verizon's network, and that does not include texting or roaming charges. In addition the minutes usually don't last too long, they expire in weeks. Buy 4 hours and maybe those minutes last two months.

Then I read the posts in this forum about TracFone. I never posted about it myself but simply read posts from those who had the service or were thinking about getting it. I did a little research on other services like NET10, Boost Mobile, and Virgin Mobile. I went on the TracFone website, chose a phone that already had the double-minutes privilege and bought a $20.00 minutes card at a nearby supermarket. The phone itself was a $19.00 refurb.

It has been a month and I am thrilled with the TracFone service. I did worry about the connection quality but thus far it has been as good and sometimes better than Verizon. I'm not a constant talker on my cellphone and nor am I a habitual or constant text messenger. I have about 200 minutes on the phone now and they don't expire till next year!! What a deal!!
