Any coin collectors?

Any coin collectors?
Are improperly struck coins worth anything?

I found a 1968 nickel that looks like something was lodged in the die when it was struck. The back has a divot the size of a small pea, and the front is slightly flattened where it looks like the metal was pressed against the die too hard.

Is it actually worth anything, or only a neat conversation piece?

I know very little about coins. That's the first thing I would do, to see if there's any info on the Internet.

In some cases, mistrikes are very common for certain coins/mint/year -- so, if it is a very common error, then it's barely worth more than face. However, there are some extremely rare mistrikes that command very high prices.

So, you need to check into the particulars.

There's a website I found a couple years ago that deals specifically with this, and was very active and had lots of helpful people -- I'll see if I can find the URL.'
