Cross Post: Spring clothes sorting time
Edited on Sun Jan-27-08 06:06 AM by Horse with no Name
It's time to dig out boxes of clothing. For me, that means making 3 piles...one for wearing again this year, two for selling at consignment (or in years past Ebay) and third for donating to charity.
Make your old clothing WORK for you...wear what you can, sell what you can't, give away the others (tax deductible).
As I said, in the past I have strictly sold on Ebay, but with the decreased sales and price sniping, AND after selling some expensive items for a couple of bucks (barely enough to pay the fees), I have started consigning at resale shops.
The one I found does a 50/50--which, in my opinion, is comparable to Ebay by the time you figure it all out.

Costs associated with consigning:
Time and supplies spent washing and drying
Hangers for items (each hanger costs about .10--but after you become a regular consigner, if you ask the person who owns the shop, they will generally give you hangers to bring your stuff back on)
Gas to take items to shop

Costs associated with Ebay:
Time and supplies spend washing and drying
Time spent taking pictures, web hosting sites for templates to make listings better, listing, measuring, and dealing with sales related correspondence
Money spent on tape, printer ink, shipping supplies
Gas spent on taking items to Post Office (although for some the P.O. will pick up their items)

Of course, it is personal preference, but NOW is the time to be thinking of readying your items. I have found that the first of February is when people start thinking about Spring clothing and that is generally when you get the best price no matter how you do it.
Good luck.

On edit: Those selling children's clothing...look at this. THREE bids and price is $1.53 with only an hour to go.

THIS is why I started consigning.
