Vintage inside-cover magazine advertisements

Can anyone here tell me if there is much of a demand for them?

I have a 1909 W.V. Cahill illustrated 'Cream Of Wheat' advertisement 10" by 14". It features a young girl stacking alphabet blocks, creating w/them a picture of a black chef holding a tray w/a steaming bowl of Cream of Wheat.

The magazine cover is from The Ladies Home Journal, Feb 1910 featuring the profile of a dark haired model in a red dress, w/red ribbons in her hair. However the cover itself is not full sized. Someone cut it down in order to frame the advertisement.

My guess is that this might appeal to collectors of black memorabilia as well as W.V. Cahill collectors.

for resale. As a rule, they don't bring a great deal, but there are exceptions. Search "ad" in ebay's completed auctions in the advertising category. I think the last Cream of Wheat ad I sold went for $48 framed. It was sold in a local shop and not on ebay. Here's an ad to watch for.

There were about 40 or so Cream of Wheat ads for sale there including one similar to mine from the same year beginning at $18.50. Most however fell under the $10 range, so you were right about them not bringing in too much...

Why do people even bother going through the trouble of putting things up for sale, then taking the time to ship them for a measly $9.99? Seems like a lot of work for little payoff, but I clearly know little about the Ebay process. :blush:

The good news is that while perusing the site, I found some other items that I had no clue might actually be worth something. I'm especially excited about a Beveled Mirror Hall Tree that I own. Some that look similar are going for as much as $2500! I guess now it may be worth taking somewhere for an appraisal.

is always something new around the corner that requires investigation. Unfortunately, ebay has caused the value of many things - like your advertising - to go down. Before ebay, they were hard to find and brought more money. On the other hand, if you find something truly unique or rare, it can bring a good price.

Some will be worth considerably more.
