anything going on?

We all love to hear about the adventures of our kindred spirits here.

I got nothin goin' on. But this weekend coming up is the huge antique show at the exposition center with 1300 dealers. Last time I went I picked up a lot of tintypes for fifty cents each. And a huge scrapbook from the late 1800s.

Maybe I'll find somethin' good amid the dealers who are selling reproductions. Couldn't believe the plethora of reproductions.

1. I have 2 moods: love it or hate it.

I love it when I find good stuff and hate it when I don't and start to sputter about all the useless crap around the house. Lately I've been striking out, although there is a slim chance I found a decent piece of art last weekend. My biggest gripe is that people holding yard sales seem to think their worthless garbage is made out of gold. I don't mind paying a decent price for a decent item, but it's getting ridiculous out there. (And, of course, I'll be out of the house by 6:30 a.m. next Saturday . . . LOL.)

2. sale in the neighborhood ho ho ho

I just love people who don't know what they are selling.

Down the street, downsizers. I picked up two boxes of very cool old Xmas ornaments. Fancy ones. Probably from the 1940s. A dollar a box. Yahoooooo!

Also picked up two wonderful old brown stripe suitcases. Dollar each. Great condition.

But dammit I meant to pick up two wonderful aged wooden tool carriers. When I went back around, they were gone. Dammit! I couldn't carry them and the suitcases too.

So now I am pricing some things of my own to put out. The customer traffic is huge. I just wish most of my stock wasn't in storage.

I always buy those suitcases, too. You're going to have to get yourself one of those "granny" carts to drag around so you don't miss anything. LOL.

It worked great cuz I also bought a small TV with DVD.

I don't know anything about pricing the Xmas ornaments. Guess I'll have to do some research.

Here's a sad part of that sale. The woman had gotten her mother's box of china out of the attic -- American Limoges with 22 K gold decoration -- and she dropped the box. She was selling some pieces that were left. Most of it was damaged. I asked her if she had any serving pieces intact -- maybe a soup tureen? She said yes but she was keeping that for herself. Darn. She lost twelve dinner plates valued at $13 each, plus most of everything else except the soup plates.

6. I set up tables today but I didn't do very well

Not much interest in 100-year-old postcards, theater programs with fabulous ads from 1920s, this and that.

Women were after linens. I didn't have much out. There were a couple of dealers hot to trot on what I might have that I didn't bring and could sell privately. I have some great linens, but I'd rather sell it retail than to a dealer. I'm thinking about it.
