I am still voting for Biden
I refuse to vote for anyone else. No other candidate has said anything to change my mind.

As for Obama, I agree with this article:

www.philly.com/dailynews/opinion/20080111_Christine_M__Flowers__THE_LIMITS_OF_STAR_POWER.html

My daughter is so upset by all this, she keeps asking me why he gave up so soon. I told her she should join the forum.

3. Hi, Carla!!
Welcome to DU and to the Biden Forum!! :hi:

This article brings up a valid point: Obama hasn't EARNED this position yet. Biden has.

We're all upset and understand completely how you and your daughter feel. It will honestly be one of my life's biggest regrets that our country had the chance to have this man as our President, but we blew it.

14. Well, they are mimicking Biden in so many other ways,
odds are they will follow Joe in regards to Iraq as well.

6. I have the same reservations about
Obama. But I also have some serious reservations about Clinton too.

I am so verklempt, I think I will just vote for Biden anyhow. But I reserve the right to switch should me vote be needed to keep someone OUT of the frontrunner position.

I think the Clintons are way too in bed with corporations, 4-8 years of the same old crap if she gets elected.

10. This is EXACTLY how I feel.
I listen to Clinton, and I like her. I see her in the Senate, and I'm impressed. I think she's smart, strong, and savvy. And I love that she's a woman.

Then the same concerns arise -- the relationships with questionable people, the secrecy on so many things, the general sense that if you don't play ball with the Clintons, you're toast.

With a Bush/Clinton continuation, it would truly be an oligarchy.

So then I turn to Obama. I consider that several knowledgeable people have said he's one of the sharpest tacks to come along in a while. I believe he's sincere in his desire to do the right thing. And I love that he's black.

Then the concerns arise. His supporters say it's not experience that counts, it's judgment. Well, he's made some moves during this campaign that make me question his judgment and wonder if he's too easily influenced by his staff. I question his judgment in not showing up for critical votes. I really feel he just doesn't have the chops at this time.

Then about the BOTH of them, I worry about the widespread negative feeling toward Hillary. There IS a large segment of our population who will not vote for her because they strongly dislike her -- whatever their reasoning.

I worry about a larger number of people being unwilling to vote for a black president, as much as we hate to acknowledge that might be true.

In debate, I worry about Obama's lack of experience becoming magnified if he goes up against McCain -- or any of the others, actually.
I think Hillary could easily hold her own, but there's that ABH factor.

So I keep flopping back and forth. I think "Hillary would be okay", then my fears start bubbling up to the surface. I thin "Obama will call on the expertise of those who are qualified", then I start to question his judgment and maybe his willingness to accept direction too easily.

So..
The Clintons scare me.
Obama's inexperience concerns me.
I'm not sure how either of them would do in the GE.

I was just thinking this morning that JE might do okay in the GE, although again, up against McCain...?

I'm at sea, too.

13. It is a difficult decision
and I guess we have to think in terms of what will the republicans use against any of the candidates. I think Edwards would be the most vulnerable as his experience and his record contrast dramatically from his message.

Obama's appeal could quickly fade due to over exposure and lack of substance in his rhetoric.

Clinton could pull this off if she can come across as genuine and discard the hilbot image that turns so many people off. With a democratic congress, she could achieve more than Bill who had to deal with a republican controlled legislative branch. I think she is the most competent and able, though I don't agree with politically-driven career to date.

I'm keeping my options open right now, but Hillary is probably my first choice right now.

16. I agree about Edwards. Last nite they were talking about him on Real Time with Bill Maher.
Edited on Sat Jan-12-08 03:14 PM by pirhana
They were saying what he has been talking about concerning corporations will only hurt the middle class workers.
CEOs will get rid of some of their workers so they do not affect their bottom line.

I lived this while working at that bank. We constantly had to do more with less staff.
The employees suffered, turn-around was high, no employee loyalty, the customers got screwed, but the CEOs still made their big, fat
bonuses. And the Company remained profitable.

My piddly bonus was directly related to the price of their stock....imagine that.

17. I'm seeing that trend more and more lately
Productivity is high, but closer examination shows who is paying for that. People are working harder for more and their jobs are always vulnerable.

Corporations only care about their bottom line.

7. GREAT article
nails it.

there is nobody left in the "race" even marginally qualified to be Preside nt.

All are bright people with various talents they could put to good use, and depending on their philosophy of how the job should be done, would probably have varying degrees of success as a placeholder president. Edwards at least espouses an intent to tackle specific problems. The other two make vague mumblings about change and experience and motherhood and apple pie. The SUM of the three does not come close to Biden's qualifications in any category. It is truly astonishing that this circumstance could be, until you look at it as this columnist did.

It is "The Assault on Reason" as described by Al Gore. The dumbing down of America. The Sesame Street education that trains people to think catchphrases are actual facts. The fact that most TV entertainment is one unreality show after another is evidence of this. People would rather watch obnoxious judges make fun of lousy singers than be challenged to think by something like, say, Playhouse 90, or The Twilight Zone, or even Star Trek for cripes sakes! Even ST had a "moral of the story." So did Bonanza, and Gunsmoke! Attention spans are insufficient now to absorb such programming. The "news" needs to be spiced up with a little t&a and presented by a ken or barbie doll. As with website design, presentation trumps content. People won't read the content if they don't like the "look" - they'll just click the back button.

The MACHINE that really controls this country - the consortium of multinational corporations - has succeeded in raising an entire generation of Eloi, whose simple minds can be manipulated however they choose, whenever they choose.

8. Colorado has always been a primary state, but it has changed to caucus.
I was so excited to participate in this new process & caucus for Joe. It's so much more involved than going to a voting booth for 3 minutes. I'm not going now. Not one of the top three inspires me in the least. Clinton, too corporate. Obama, too green & talks too much about religion. Edwards, not trustworthy, IMO. I dislike them all. The only reason I'll vote in the GE is SCOTUS. Once again, I'm voting against someone, not for someone. :banghead:

Iowa was such a disappointment. Our country is fucked. I truly believe that Joe was our last & only hope to get back on track.

Welcome to DU, Carla4Biden! :hi:

9. is there a 12-step program
for people like us?

Something that will turn us into brain-dead idiots who think the remaining three are "great choices?"

I feel like a Star Trek fan.

Maybe we need to hold an annual convention, all dress up in Biden masks and commiserate. We could say "LAdies and gentlemen, God Love ya!" a lot. :)

I agree; Biden probably was the last hope. The country is past teetering on the edge; it is sliding rapidly into the abyss. With all due respect to Al Gore, whom I admire immensely, the climate issue cannot be addressed in this political climate. After getting slapped in the face he did a great job of communicating the issue, but addressing it is not going to occur without a political solution. Just as Joe said Iraq is the "rock in the road" preventing progress on other issues, the dumbing of the electorate (intentional, carefully orchestrated) is the turd in the punchbowl that has destroyed the Founding Father's elegantly designed form of government. We the People are collectively a bunch of "Deal or No Deal" viewers, "educated" by Big Bird, with "no child left behind" assuring that all we will teach the next generation is how to give the right sound bite answers on tests, rather than think and understand.

12. Both your posts in this thread are very thought provoking
We have quickly become a "sound bite" society and it isn't generational. I see the mentality in people of all ages, sometimes even in myself. There is a frantic pace in today's world and a fear that if you fall behind, you will fade into oblivion. Sometimes it feels like we are moving faster, but really going no where, just going around in circles at an accelerated pace.
