Am I wrong here?
Edited on Thu Jul-17-08 11:33 PM by The Village Idiot
Do I not hear America saying, "We've got our Hope. Now, PLEASE give us our Biden?" This is getting embarrassing. Why wasn't he everybody's second choice in Iowa on January 3? Because the omniverse will be.

2. Aren't they?
The Democratic blogosphere, at least, largely saying that? Seems to me. But I don't really get around all that much.

4. Personally -
It kinda makes me :grr:

Why is it NOW that everyone is rooting for Joe?

Hello people?! Is it because people are finally realizing their knight in shining armor really isn't one? And that it is Joe Biden that is saying and doing all the right things (and has been all along)?

I don't understand why all of the sudden there is a Bidenonomon.

Better late than never, I guess.

10. Biden was born on Nov. 20, 1942. Obama was born August 4th, 1961.
Biden is a Scorpio, but he is very close to being a Sagittarius (only 2 days). He seems to fit personality-wise more closely with the latter.

Scorpio:
Loving
Intense
Powerful
Determined / tenacious / persevering
Emotional / sensitive
Calm but seething
Reserved / withdrawn
Secretive
Deep / profound
Passionate
Loyal / devotional
Ambitious
Extreme
Willful / fanatical
Mysterious / magnetic
Deeply resentful / brooding / potentially destructive
Sexual

Sagittarius:

witty conversationalist
freedom loving / free-spirited
idealistic / believing
moral
intelligent / intellectual
positive / optimistic
honest / sincere
reliable
enterprising / ambitious
energetic / active
versatile
adventurous
independent / unfettered
generous
temperamental
impatient / restless

Ideal Careers Ideal careers for Sagitarians include teaching,<3><4> the law,<3><4> theology and religion,<3><4> politics,<3><4> public relations or advertising,<3><4> anything related to travel,<3><4> arts, science, medicine and research

Likes travel<4> and adventure, honesty, justice and law,<4> freedom,<4> meaning,<4> intellectual compatibility, taking risks, flirting, socializing.

Dislikes routine and chores, being constrained,<4> being tied down,<4> being forced to do things, being doubted, having to explain oneself, being forced to make promises, being bothered by little details

Obama/Leo Pretty much in the center of the sign period (July 23-August 22)

Love this: Many astrologers believe that each sign of the zodiac has its own identifying physical traits. Some think of Leos as being usually tall, with thin waists, trim athletic legs, strong physical features, well-defined appendages (hands, feet, etc.). They are said to be tending to keep their head held high and look down their noses at others, and have a mane of thick hair.

Characteristics:

Creative • Proud • Risk-taking
Fun-loving • Dramatic • Dignified • Theatrical
Passionate • Affectionate • Ardent • Loyal
Loves attention • Very strong • Independent
Noble • Leader • Sunny • Bright • Super cool
Magnetic • Kingly • Powerful • Enthusiastic
Protective •Adoring •Playful • Inventive
Generous • Supportive • Warm • Broad-minded
Expansive • Faithful • Warmhearted • Loving

I got all this from the Wiki site and links from there.

8. I bet Joe was #2 for many
I wish we had a system in the primaries where you give one person 3 points, another 2, a 3rd 1 point or something. Biden, Dodd, and Richardson would have racked up a lot of 2-pt and 1-pt votes, where the caucus system made things look even more skewed than they were.

But maybe that's just me.

9. Biden didn't have enough time
to become recognizable to the general public. His campaign ended so abruptly and at a time when many people weren't following politics as closely as they are now. It seems to me that his popularity now is an indication that he would have done better if he had had better publicity and more time on the campaign trail.

12. I agree -- he just needed more exposure then more people would
have seen what we did.

Even if he'd been 'eligible' to participate in the next debate, it would have helped somewhat.

would have elevated the discourse and would have benefited everyone.

15. Remember my story about the co-worker who knows I'm a dem
but saw my "Biden for President" bumper sticker & commented, "I'm surprised you'd vote for a republican."

:eyes:

Alot of people who don't pay attention to politics only recoginized the names the MSM kept repeating, which in the primaries, were Clinton-Edwards-Obama.

16. Yes
And now the media keeps repeating Biden's name as a VP prospect. He is getting more attention now than he did when he was running for president. How ironic!

I remember that story. We often forget that many people don't have a clue about politics.

17. Yes! I remember that!
And I was at a friend's house (last winter) and I was singing Joe's praises. She was smiling, nodding, trying to be polite, but looked kinda confused. Then she said, "But he's not running for President, is he?". Arrrrgh! :banghead:

If I hadn't been REALLY paying attention this time, the names other that The Top Three probably would have been a blur to me, too.

11. I know this is a sore subject, so I'll tread lightly
Biden was the #2 choice for man in the caucuses, problem is Obama was #1 and he had the high turnout so that Biden being #1 or #2 wasn't sufficient. If there had only been 3 or 4 contenders Biden would have probably been #2, if there had been only 150,000 caucus participants Biden may have been #2 or #3. But with the overwhelming # of caucus-goers (and Obama being overwhelmingly represented by them) Biden just didn't have a chance.

13. I understand the point you're making,
but I still agree with tsegat that if there had been more time and exposure (or more people had been interested), Joe would have done better.

It was practically, at that point, a name recognition thing.

18. Yeah, and still a $$ thing. All candidates who ran (and some who thought about running)
came to Iowa to campaign for 2006 candidates (as did those who didn't end up running including Wes Clark, Russ Feingold, Gary Hart, Evan Bayh). Some raised $$ for their PACs or exploratory committees and some just campaigned (or raised $$ for the candidate they campaigned with - or the Party). Although I didn't actually see Biden campaigning until May of 2007 I know he was in my town for candidates in the summer of 2006.

The media's Obama vs. Clinton (unfortunately) started in July of 2004 at the National Convention. How could anyone compete with that? (a painful question for John Edwards I'm sure!).
