with Sigma Gamma Rho sorority, Inc. So I wasn't with the Democrats or the Obama/Biden campaign. Therefore I had to be neutral....
We had applications for DC, VA and MD, but no absentee ballots (some folks requested those)
We were near the Metro and they wouldn't allow us to put up a table....so several of us were stationed around the Metro entrance and on corners across the street.
I did get several people to register, but it was disheartening to hear how many people couldn't vote because they had felony records. I had to help a few fill out their cards because they could not read or write.
We also happened to be near a homeless shelter and I ended up giving my lunch away :-)
Because the organization I was with is historically black, I think MORE THAN several folks ASSUMED we were with Obama's campaign, which may explain why quite a few older white folks said "no, thanks"....and quite a few young people and people of color said "already registered; go Obama!" Eventually some of the ladies were saying "please register to vote, no matter who you support" so people wouldn't assume anything. One of them had a jacket on over her Obama t-shirt  She was a Hillary supporter originally. Of the four of us on my side of the street, I was the original Bidenista, one was an Edwards supporter (she was still pissed at him), and two were Hillary supporters. We ALL detest McCain and cannot understand how ANYONE could vote for him. I find it interesting that NONE of us were Obama supporters in the beginning.
Personally I think it could have been better organized, but we had fun nevertheless and it was a good day. :-) We met some, *ahem,* interesting characters.
