Hellllo Bidneites! I may be spending less time on here....
Edited on Thu Nov-06-08 04:29 AM by 48percenter
I've done some thinking lately, and if I added up the amount of time I've spent in the past 7 years on DU, I would probably be appalled!

It's time for me to pull back a bit, I'll check in here from time to time, but I need to get back to my German studies so I can find a fulfilling job. DU will not really change, at least the GD forums: I see it beginning today, the progressive whiners are out in force, all pissed because of Obama's cabinet choices. Some people just need something to be unhappy about, and I don't need to be dragged down. IMHO, I trust Barack and Joe, that's why I voted for them. I am really tired of the armchair quarterbacks, the negative nellies, those who would jump all over you because you are not as smart as they think they are (LOL)...so, outside of the Photography group and my good friends here in JBSG, I am going on a 'DU fast' - we're talking 10 minutes on the egg timer and your off kind of thing.

I need a break from politics, this has been an especially long two year run, yet I feel deeply fulfilled and positive knowing our guys are running the show. I need to get back into my photography, and ski season begins soon. Every chance I get, I want to ride my bike, become more fit.

Does anyone else feel like their life has been absorbed by DU and they need to break off, to savor the moment?

Edit, DU crashed on me: I wanted to post this yesterday and show you how beautiful it was here, almost 68F, unheard of weather in November. Today it is gray and foggy, typical. I went out for a long bike ride and sat in the sun with my cat, thinking about Joe and Barack and how great it is to have them as our leaders. Everything felt right with the world yesterday. Many of my German friends said they stayed up until 2-3am to make sure Obama was elected, people are positively ecstatic over here. :D

1. I know how you feel
but you gotta come back and see US regularly.

I'm so tired of politics, but I think I have to withdraw gradually. Meanwhile, I need to see if I have any life left to salvage here. I know I used to have other interests, but can't remember what they were!

As always, I love your picture!

2. ditto! I've vowed that so many times
but yeah, I really need to focus on other things in life. And if I'm going to focus on politics, I need to get more involved in a real world way. This is why I don't own a TV - I know I'd get sucked in. Of course, now the internet makes it just like having a TV!

To the future and to all of us finding our way in a more hopeful world

3. I hear you!
I think we all need a break. I will find out soon if I made it into graduate school, so I think I'd better wean myself now, or I'll be in trouble as procrastination is a genetic trait in my family.

Have fun skiing, I'm jealous.

4. I too, need to back off on time spent at DU.
It's really interfering with my private life -- I'm not getting anything done! I haven't worked out consistently in months! My house is not a disaster, but it needs more attention. I've never had much discipline, so it will be interesting to see if I can break my addiction. I think I'm going to have to establish a rule -- no internet before working out! And then, I think your egg timer may be a good idea. One hour to catch up on email, read a few threads, but when it goes off, I get off!

Is there an Internet Anonymous - a twelve step program for those of us addicted to the virtual world? I need it!! Let's check in periodically & see how we are all doing with our addiction!

48, we are both blessed to live in such beautiful places! Here's a pic of the Flatirons I took from the lake that is about 4 blocks from my house. I'm in Lafayette, CO, so we are about 15 miles from the base of the Flatirons. They are stunning! In the winter when they are dusted with snow & the sun is just rising, it is a breath taking site! They are all frosty & glittery & tinged pink with sunlight. It is like a fairy tale setting.

Now I'm back.

6. I feel like our work has been done.
When I look back at the last 22 months of my life, I think I will be happy that I had the time to indulge in my passion - something that was lacking during previous elections. I was always so jealous of people that seemed to have more time to devote to the elections - and this was one time in my life when I got to be the person I was always jealous of.

I imagine that after Obama/Biden get into the WH we will have our hands full defending them against the right wing smear machine.
That said - the time involved will not be anything like the time we have all devoted to getting a Dem elected.

Hope everyone checks in from time to time - just to say hi and let everyone know what you are up to.

Love you guys~! And thanks for being here during our mission.

every time the administration takes a moderate stance. There will be no shortage of criticism, I'm sure.

23. Okay 8 minutes left, LOL - yeah it's started already
and this is part of why I am spending less time on DU. Some of the more radical elements of DU are just not satisfied with anything. Look over in GDP, it's pretty sad. Especially after 8 years of asshat BUSH!! Some DU'ers need to get a grip.

Me? I am still basking in the glow, the newspapers are chock FULL of Obama this, Obama that (the GERMAN papers) everywhere I go I see Baracks' face smiling at me. I go "ahhhhhhhh" passing the paper boxes.

Haven't seen any photos of Joe over here though. :( Just wait until the world gets to see OUR cupcake in action.

It's interesting to listen/read how all of us have coped with these last 2 years when it comes to this election. We all had our favorite candidate at different times. Once our favorite, mine was Biden, was eliminated we bounced around with our opinions as to our next choice. This was all a critical time as our choice was Critical. I preferred Obama over Clinton, but, would have welcomed Hillary as our candidate. Through the months I have almost become fanatical about Obama. He truly inspires. And Then, to Top it off he picked Biden as his running mate. Damn things looked good.

But, for the past week my anxiety level was over the top. It can physically affect a person! It wasn't until today I feel normal again. I felt like I had run a marathon yesterday, ok, never did any running, but, it seemed like I had, ha. Hot damn it is wonderful.

Today after looking at my granddaughter's face book and comments from her friends it was amazing how angry the repub people she knows really suspect Obama is a Muslim, anti-american, and these are college kids, Caiif.! WEll, we had to deal with bush and his destroying of our Constitution so let them eat it. Gawd what closed minded people. I am surrounded by them here in Okla. Taxes are probably their biggest problem with a Dem president, along with their right to screw anyone dumb enough to be screwed. (Edit: sorry, not really dumb enough to be screwed but not Powerful or Connected enough not to be screwed.)

Whew, just had to rant and Biden's Group is the best place to go.

15. Well you and the others have got me thinking, 48.
All I could accomplish if I weren't on DU so many hours a day.

Now that Obama has won the election, I feel less intense about everything, which is good. Think I'll try to step away, too, and see how that goes.

:hi:

Edited on Thu Nov-06-08 04:07 PM by DesertedRose
I "give up" DU for Lent.

It's hard for me to tear away when there are so many things going on daily. Especially now. But there's wisdom in your words.

Unfortunately I am in the belly of the beast in DC so it'll be hard to escape!

This is what we left behind (and I miss it so):

18. After posting this morning, I got really sick (sore throat)
I believe that may be a sign! I think the stress of the election finally did me in :(

Anyway - 30 min from my house! CrispyQGirl - I suspect if you climb your mountain and look north, and I climb mine and look south, we can "see each other from our house".

(looking south)

24. I got the flu like I've never gotten it before in 2004, January
primary in New Hampshire. Literally the morning after working my ass off in the cold for a week in Manchester, I had a 102 fever and had to drive back to PA. It was snowing, driving was treacherous. Awful trip.

So, susanwy, take good care of yourself, rest, drink lots of water and pamper yourself. And feel better soon.
