Biden on Meet the Press
Edited on Sun Sep-09-07 11:33 AM by tsegat01
I just watched Joe Biden on Meet the Press and he was at his best. His assessment of the conditions in Iraq were clear and concise, and his recommendations were logical and persuasive. His demeanor was slightly subdued and appropriately serious. He also made it quite clear that the Democratic nomination was not worth short changing our troops by defunding the war.

His appearance showcased his integrity and expertise. I was very impressed.

1. Biden did a great job on MTP
But - I don't like that he continues to fund this war.

I agree that we need to fund the troops - and I love it how he stands up and says that as long as there is one soldier on the ground, that they need to be funded.

But Senator Biden - put it into another bill.

The best outcome from the Senate would be - a funding bill with a timeline attached.

Just my feelings. I still support him 100%.

2. He did make the point that with Vietnam
Edited on Sun Sep-09-07 01:32 PM by tsegat01
we didn't cut off the funding until 1975 "after we brought the majority of the troops home." His reasoning on this was very logical. He knows that Bush will keep the troops in Iraq with or without funding, and leave them even more vulnerable than they are already.

I was very impressed with his assessment and with the fact that he did not play politics with our soldiers lives.

5. What else can Congress do to get thru to this administration?
I hope that there are strings attached.

You know Biden is holding hearings with Petraues and Corker this week.
I am anxious to see what comes out of that.

tsegat - I am going to start calling Biden - Catman.
So lucky.

13. I LOVE watching Biden in hearings!
Leahy and Biden formidable during hearings. You know that people stay up all night dreading the face-offs they are about to endure!

21. I think it's right to fund the troops until we can get them out of there
As soon as we have the votes--boom, we should pass a bill withdrawing them and the funding. But until then we have to keep them alive.

4. he did do well - and defended his votes well too
His history with being in the Senate during Vietnam is quite the benefit during this debacle.
And his willingness to lose the nomination in order to fund the troops safety shows some balls.

9. And gops of integrity
something we could really use right now.

I don't want someone telling me what I'd like to hear. I want someone with the guts to tell me the TRUTH!!! Sadly, too many politicians try to say the right thing politically and it comes back later to bite them in the ass when some media personality plays an early political clip over and over again.

6. Here we are - at least a week out from the funding vote.
Biden has already said how he will vote.

I can't wait to see how Hil-bama is going to vote.
Are they going to wait until the last minute again, or are they
going to take a stand this time?

Biden will have the easiest time against the GOP in the general because of this one thing alone.
Even tho I don't agree.
Hillary or Oprama will have it used against them in the worst way should either one of them win
the nomination. Assuming that they will vote to cut funding again.

10. We should call you "quick draw mrigirl"!!!
You got in there right away with substance to back up your assertions. I think you shut Derby down right quick.

I'm glad Derby posted that though. Negative subject lines often attract more attention and hopefully a lot of people read the replies. The negative responses were all one-liners with no meat.

16. You should have seen
me running back and forth from the t.v. to the computer to get the quotes right! I had taped MTP in case I missed it and ended up watching it live, then I went on DU to get the repsonse and was prettry angry w/ that post. I worked pretty hard on that. I wanted it to be right and on the money. That was probably my best post ever- me being a rookie and all!!!!

You came back with much more ammo and Derby had no response whatsoever! I wonder if he even watched the show. Maybe he just heard that on some message board and decided to ruffle some feathers, which he did, but there was some substance underneath those feathers.
