Hey! The Obama Health Care Bus/Rally will be in Seattle tomorrow --
I think I'm going to try to go. They recommend public transportation (because of the parking) -- I haven't ridden a bus in YEARS! I'm trying to think -- maybe the express to a Mariners game 15 years ago. They didn't even have busses in Clayton.

Anyway, I'm excited that I actually feel like DOING something, and excited because I can help in my own little way.

1. Sounds exciting
Are you up to a trip on public transportation?

2. Actually I've been scoping out places where I can park, hop a quick express
bus downtown, then just zip back out again. It'll be my penance for not taking it more often (not that I go anywhere, anyway).

I'm HOPING the O bus will be there, but even if it's not, the O site said over 800 people rsvp'd, and Jim McDermott (wonderful wonderful wonderful much beloved and eternally re-elected congressman who also happens to be an MD) will be speaking. It'll be good. I'll feel guilty if I don't go if I at all feel up to it. What else can I do?

3. Its a gutsy things to do
after being so sick. I know the fear of feeling stranded somewhere if you start to feel ill. Its kept me much too close to home for quite some time, but eventually you have to take that risk. Sounds like this is the perfect time and reason to venture out.

4. Hey! I've started a zillion times to ask you how you're doing re: fires --
Jim said it looked (yesterday) like the very beginning of a snow fall, and a DUer wrote that Colorado put out a health alert that those with respiratory problems needed to take precautions because the winds had blown the ash THERE! Has your area been affected? That same DUer said s/he woke up the morning after Mt. St. Helen's and the furniture, car, was covered with a fine layer of black ash, when here in Seattle, we got virtually none of that (even though we watched it in the distance from my office downtown). So, is the wind blowing win' ya are agin' ya?

6. It appears that the smoke didn't blow our way this time
My daughter and I were on the road Sunday and Monday and didn't even realize there was a fire. We drove past Auburn Monday night. Last year was awful. Smoke blocked the sun for a week or more and there was a film of ash on the cars. Evidently the winds blew the smoke east this time.

5. Oh, to answer your post, I am a little scared, but the worst that could happen
is I'd need to call my brother or get someone there to take me home. Or, they could send me to Harborview hospital which has to treat me for free!

7. That's good
You have a plan, which I know is necessary when you take steps to re-enter the world. After that, each outing gets easier.

10. Yes -- it was nice to see so many others who were of the same mind.
The MC was a pastor from a church in Renton (like you know where that is) and he really was good. Got the crowd going.

Across the street were the Freepers with a BULLHORN! It was all money money money, where on our side it was all about doing the moral thing and helping our fellow brothers and sisters.

After the rally ended, several of the good guys stood across the street from the bad guys, each side waving their signs at the other. Then our guys went over and just kind of mushed in and stood with the Freeps. Both sides behaved themselves, except the jerk with the bullhorn was irritating.

I can't find ANY coverage on this! :grr: :grr: :grr: :grr: :grr:

PLUS Jim McDermott said there were 2000 rallies being held across the country -- have you heard anything about that?

It's not news unless people are rude or violent or carrying weapons. :eyes:

11. I'm so glad you got to go
It is really a shame that only the extremists get any media attention. It really distorts the overall picture, but I guess that's nothing new.

13. It was easy -- even though I took a bus!
Parked 1/2 block away from the stop, bus was express into downtown, only had to walk 1/2 block to the festivities. Ditto, reverse. I didn't stay afterward and only witnessed the interaction between us/them as I was heading back to the bus stop.

If I understood McDermott correctly that there were 2000 rallies county-wide yesterday, why not even a blip? How many times do we see/hear about the contentious meetings? Sheesh! Have YOU seen anything on it? Am I just missing it?

17. Can you believe it?
I think crazy has been brought to a new level.

That at them yelling at that lady in the wheelchair. And these people call themselves the party of family values?

Maybe Keith or Rachel will cover it?

It's so true that the media only covers the crazies.
