Crispy --
Here's Jim's response:

I should know this but I really don't... My *guess* is that one would write up a treatment, copyright it, and get an agent and or manger to rep you (maybe even an entertainment lawyer) and get you a meeting with people who could greenlight it.

I recall working at a development agency and people would come in all the time to pitch ideas and I'm pretty sure they all had agents.

BUT -- I think I didn't make myself clear to him (or I misunderstood you) -- you don't have a story/script, do you? Just an idea for a plot or something?

BTW, WTF is Dexter?

1. Dexter is highly addictive!
It's a program on Showtime and I've watched two seasons through Netflix streaming. It is original and compelling and once I start watching it, I can't stop!!!

3. I'm afraid to look into it, then. We don't get Showtime, and maybe I should be relieved! nt

4. I had been resisting it
My son and his wife both raved about the show and finally I watched a few episodes one night. Michael C. Hall from Six Feet Under stars in it and he's brilliant. I don't get Showtime either, though I have it free for a few months because I upgraded my DVR.

8. AND now the Cafe
Actually the Cafe game is more fun than the farms, but I think I'm getting bored with them.

13. Nope
You prepare and serve the food. You hire wait staff and can expand and decorate your cafe. It is one of the more clever games on the Internet and quickly became the number one social game shortly after it was launched. Actually this game is rather "cute". It has the funniest assortment of customers.

14. What can I say?
I don't have a life!!! I think it is a great stress reliever for people. You should see Livvy! She has so many games going on at once AND she works full time. This may be some kind of recovery for political junkies.

2. Update -- he just called
He said he's sorry he didn't understand -- but I'm not sure I really understand either. Do you just have a great "overall" idea, or an episode idea, theme, or what?

Anyway, if you have an actual story, he said you would submit a tech script. He warned that they work really far in advance, so make sure it's timely.
For example, his friend is working on Lie to Me and he said they've already assigned the episodes for next season. (I guess it's you do episode, 4, 7, 9, somebody else gets assigned to episodes 2, 5, 6, etc).

He said at the very least, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you had a better idea that would have made the show ever more great! :7

He said he's been by the set (the same set of Heros?) because he's got a friend who works on that show, and he knows that it's very popular even though he's never seen it either.

Sooo.... if both he and I are way off of what info you're looking for, let me know! :hi:

6. Oh Gately, you're so sweet to look into this for me.

Like Pat said, Dexter is an HBO show about the life of a charming serial killer who has a code. The code: he only kills people that deserve it. Dexter works as a blood spatter expert in the police department, so he knows of lots of people who should be behind bars but get off for various reasons, so he has quite a field of possible victims to select from. I think it's an outstanding show & because of Michael C. Hall, I've gone back & am now renting all the Six Feet Under series, which I also like, but not quite as much as Dexter.

Each season, Dexter has a main antagonist that challenges him in some way. The new season, which I won't see until it comes out on DVD, has John Lithgow as another serial killer. I love Lithgow & I wouldn't be surprised if this is the best season yet! I think most shows really start to lose it after the second season, but Dexter hasn't done that.

Anyway, my idea is more of a theme for an entire season. Much as I enjoy writing, I don't have the time or inclination to devote to writing several episodes. I'd rather just call someone & tell them my idea & see if they like it. I think it's got a very interesting twist to it & would make a great season. I'm not looking to make money or anything, although a trip to Hollywood & a day or two on the Dexter set would be fun! ;)

Tell Jim thanks for the info! And again, thanks to you, too, for thinking of me!

BTW, I'm sort of a serial killer junkie. Did any of you ever watch The Profiler with the Jack of All Trades? I loved that show! And one of my favorite movies is Mr. Brooks. I don't care for Kevin Costner much, but he's really good in that movie! William Hurt is really good in it too. My sister thinks I'm a bit of a sicko for my serial killer fixation, but demented as they are, they are also very fascinating.

And also, did anyone check out White Collar last night? If the rest of the season is as good as the premier, you know what channel I'll be on, on Friday nights!

on edit: It is on Showtime, not HBO.

7. I loved Six Feet Under
It was a great series, full of surprises. I love Mr. Brooks as well. I think it is the best role Kevin Costner has ever done. I don't know what the fascination is with serial killers, but I must admit I'm guilty of it as well. Right now I'm catching up on Medium, watching reruns on Lifetime.
