Update: Beau Biden is making progress after stroke, officials say
Edited on Thu May-13-10 01:05 AM by gateley
Beau Biden is continuing to make progress in his recovery from a mild stroke, Delaware state officials said Wednesday afternoon.

Joe and Jill Biden were in Philadelphia Wednesday to be with the vice president's oldest son, who was transferred Tuesday night from a Newark, Del., hospital to Philly's Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, renowned in the region for its neuroscience work. But the White House said the veep still plans on attending a dinner in D.C. Wednesday night with Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

Beau Biden, the attorney general of Delaware, first sought medical care early Tuesday for what his doctors later described as a mild stroke that had not impeded his speech or motor skills.

On Wednesday, officials with the state Department of Justice said Biden will continue to receive therapy over coming days and that he looks foward to getting back to work soon. Officials declined to tell the Associated Press whether Biden will stay in the Philadelphia hospital during his therapy.

At 41, Beau Biden is just a little bit younger than Joe Biden was when he nearly was killed by a ruptured brain aneurysm. A senator at the time, Joe Biden recovered after surgery in 1988.

EDIT -- here's a link from the article that didn't translate as a link when I cut and pasted. It's the report of Joe's medical status when he was running for VP. Kind of interesting.

2. There's already another one out there posted by Lynn that says his wife
said Beau is chomping at the bit to get out of the hospital, so it appears he's feeling pretty good. Joe must be somewhat relieved, although now this will be a constant concern for him. :(

4. This is great news. I'm sure he is getting the right medication, and information to keep this from
happening again.

6. Maybe because of PT or rehab?
Dunno. Hope they aren't finding some AVMs or anything like that. :scared:

7. Well well -- look who's here! Welcome to DU, PhillyGurl!
:hi:

You may be right about the PT/rehab, although initially it didn't sound as though he would need it (listen to me, like I saw the medical records or something :eyes:). They said he had full motor and speech skills.

He "attended: -- by phone -- a fundraiser at Joe's house, so that's encouraging!

Beau Biden makes appearance at fundraiser – by phone

It was scheduled long before Attorney General Beau Biden suffered a mild stroke last week – but a fundraiser at Vice President Joe Biden’s Greenville home for his son, Beau, went on as planned yesterday. Beau did make an appearance – by speakerphone from his hospital room at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. Biden is expected to be released from the hospital next week.
