Argentine president delays Cuba visit due to illness

BUENOS AIRES, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Argentine President Cristina Fernandez has postponed her trip to Cuba and Venezuela due to health problems, Foreign Ministry officials said Friday.

Fernandez, who had been scheduled to leave late Friday for a state visit to Cuba, was suffering from fainting spells and dehydration due to high summer temperatures in Buenos Aires, according to her doctor.

Fernandez will now leave for Cuba on Jan. 18 and will travel onto Venezuela, according to Foreign Minister Jorge Taiana, who has informed the two governments of the postponement.

Cuban leader Raul Castro has sent his regards in a message to Fernandez, noting that he is looking forward to her visit after her recovery.
