Honduran Coup Perpetrators Visit the United States

HAVANA, Cuba. July 8 (acn) Representatives of the de facto government in
Honduras travelled to the United States to meet with US politicians for
several days, in a visit organized by Republican Senator John McCain.

Granma newspaper reports that McCain, a former US presidential candidate
and well known for his critical stance against Venezuela, Bolivia and
other countries in the region, would sponsor a press conference by these
visitors on Tuesday, at Washington’s National Press Club.

The purpose of this delegation, made up by members of the Honduran
National Congress, representatives from private sectors, and former
members of the judicial body, is to justify the military coup.

A report by the Spanish news agency EFE, confirmed the presence in
Washington of these coup perpetrators and the holding of the press
conference, in which former Honduran ambassador in the US, Roberto
Flores, described the coup against Zelaya as a constitutional solution.

Flores explained that this commission will be in the US capital until
Friday and will meet with some legislators, like Democrat leader Eliot
Engel, Republican congressman Lincoln Díaz-Balart and Democrat
congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford.

John McCain is the head of the board of directors of the International
Republican Institute (IRI), an entity considered to be the international
arm of the US Republican Party and that played a fundamental role in the
coup d’etat against Hugo Chávez in Venezuela in 2002.

Over the last year, he has worked in Honduras with funds from the
National Foundation for Democracy (NED), of over 1.2 million dollars, to
influence political parties and "support initiatives to implement
political positions during the 2009 campaigns".

1. At least this gives us a moment to thank fate for keeping McCain out of the driver's seat.
What he would have done as President regarding Latin America would have been a nightmare.

Even worse than what we are seeing now with a State Department packed to the walls with Iran/Contra holdovers and a small mob of Miami gusano lunatics.

3. Why are TWO DEMOCRATS legitimizing these criminals?
Elliot Engel, mentioned in the article is one of the Democrats they wanted to meet:

Bronx Rep Engel Helps Obama in Florida

by ALEX KRATZ
NORWOOD NEWS

With mere days remaining in the presidential campaign, Bronx Congressman Eliot Engel spent some time campaigning for fellow Democrat Barrack Obama in Florida.

Engel spokesman Joe O’Brien said the Obama campaign reached out to Engel “because of his appeal to transplanted New Yorkers now living there.”

“I am very familiar with the area since my mother used to live there and I visited her often,” Engel said in a statement. “Carrying Florida is vital to getting elected to the presidency, and I was glad to be able to meet and campaign with Senator Obama, and hopefully to help him carry the state.” —Alex Kratz

Gabrielle Gifford??? She's from Arizona, must be under John McCain's thumb! Looks as if they went after the least knowledgeable Democrat in the House just so they could bag a Democrat and get her in their corner. Damned dirty scheming, isn't it? Her Wiki:
Gabrielle Giffords (born June 8, 1970) is a Democratic politician from Tucson, Arizona. She is congresswoman for Arizona's 8th congressional district. Giffords has worked to promote technological innovation as an important component of national prosperity.<1><2> She believes that innovation in renewable energy sources needs to be a top public policy priority and she is a strong proponent of solar energy.<3>

Giffords is the youngest woman ever to be elected to the Arizona Senate, where she served from 2003 to 2005. She is the only member of the U.S. Congress who is a spouse of an active duty member of the US military.<4>

Giffords was first sworn in as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives on January 4, 2007. She is the third woman in Arizona's history to be elected to serve in the U.S. Congress and she was the only woman elected as part of Arizona's congressional delegation to the 110th Congress. On May 31, 2008, Giffords became the first sitting member of the U.S. Congress to have a spouse in outer space when her husband began a 14-day mission aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery.<5>

She is a member of the Democratic Leadership Council and its congressional affiliate the New Democrat Coalition. She is also a Blue Dog Democrat.

Cynical predation. They picked off two very weak Democrats.
