Obama says things about Honduras

In an interview broadcast this evening with Maria Elena Salinas of Univision, the prez says:

-- It would not be good for Zelaya to cross the border into Honduras; it wouldn't help to resolve the problem, would not be helpful.

-- He thinks, like Hillary, that it would not help to take actions outside of the Costa Rica negotiations. (Are those talks still going on ???

-- Then the prez said the United States wants a resolution to the situation in which Zelaya returns to finish out his term and that there be legal and recognized elections, according to the constitution.

-- Obama says there has to be a way to resolve the situation without generating violence, but without setting a bad precedent.

-- The prez did not mention Goriletti or utter the word "coup' at all.

-----------------------------

So if I read this right, BO does not want Zelaya to return by crossing the border, but he wants him to finish out his term, to hold scheduled elections, but he and Hillary want Arias to fix it so Zelaya can return without sparking violence, but the United States does not want to set a bad precedent.

Is this befuddling diplomacy or what ?

1. It is difficult to handle the situation, due to the violent nature of the golpistas
There is every reason to think Zelaya will get shot if he goes over the border. People are getting killed by the golpistas and others in their midst, who knows, paid mercenaries who are sharp shots?

There is no way around it. It's a nasty mess and getting Zelaya back in power will require work and miracles at this point. But the alternative, if they are unarmed, just doesn't make sense. Look at Iran.. while it might keep Zelaya in the news over time the attention will drop off. Sadly, the USA is probably the only viable broker here.

2. Reading this from Sandra Cuffe on Twitter made me think about the violence:
maestro MARTIN FLORENCIO RIVERA BAMENTA asesinado a 25 punaladas anoche saliendo de velorio en COPEMH para Roger Abraham #Honduras #CrisisHN

This teacher was knifed 25 times and killed last night leaving the wake for Roger Abraham.

3. Sounds as if they meant to leave a message for the people of Honduras by savaging
this teacher who came to mourn the death of a collegue they already killed earlier.

Terrorism.

What a dreadful, sorrowful shame.

It would be hard to believe an ordinary soldier would opt to do something like this to his fellow citizen. I feel the order had to come from one of the flaccid, moist, soft, gooey maggots like the coup plotters, or their demon, Billy Joya, summoned from the pits of hell for his return to center stage serving Honduras' right-wing again.

4. Obama/Hillary in a quandry

"It's a nasty mess and getting Zelaya back in power will require work and miracles at this point."

Hillary, Obama using high-flown bombastic language calling for the restoration of Zelaya, restore constitutional law, restore democracy, avoid setting a bad precedent by supporting an illegal coup, hold legit elections ... etc etc.

All good, but missing from this formula is WHAT THE HELL do they do with Micheletti and his golpista goons? Where are the gorilettis going to go? Miami?

6. They can stay at Rush Limbaugh's home in Palm Beach.
They have a lot in common. I'm sure Rush would be glad to put up Billy Joya and any of his death squad members, as well.

There's so much dishonesty right now. This isn't going to wear well with Democrats.
