1. This is an Associated Pukes propaganda piece. Beware!
Edited on Thu Aug-20-09 01:25 PM by Peace Patriot
Just to mention several outstanding examples of disinformation in this article:

"Elsewhere in the region, many of the leaders have already solidified their hold on power, in part through referendums and new constitutions overwhelmingly approved by voters. In Venezuela, other branches of government including congress and the judiciary are stacked with Chavez allies, leaving his opponents with few options for getting back into power."

First, the "stacked" Congress. What this article doesn't point out--and should--is that Venezuela's National Assembly members are ALSO ELECTED, and that Venezuelan voters have overwhelmingly approved a pro-Chavez National Assembly (congress), in elections that are far, FAR more transparent than our own.

The Associated Pukes are implying that Chavez "stacked Congress"--hand-selected the members of the National Assembly. They are objecting not to a "strongman," but to democracy! They rightfully acknowledge that Chavez and most of his government's initiatives have overwhelming approval among Venezuelans, but then they just ride their horse right over that reality, and still feed this lie that he is a "dictator."

The use of the word "solidified" ("solidified their hold on power") also colors the FACT of popular, DEMOCRATIC support with the smear of "tyranny"--as if the democratic institutions and honest elections in these countries mean nothing. They're saying, 'oh, yeah, well, the ignorant poor voted for them--but what do they matter?' They just hate it that the "ignorant poor" can elect leaders who attend to their interests, in these DEMOCRATIC countries, and smugly consider our own 'model democracy,' where the poor cannot do so, to be superior.

The article also promotes uncontradicted LIES by rightwing politicians, for instance, Venezuelan opposition leader Jose Luis Farias saying that "Chavez has violated the constitution a lot more than Zelaya did."

Chavez and his government have not only scrupulously adhered to the Venezuelan Constitution, when the "opposition" in Venezuela attempted their coup, in 2002, what did they do? They SUSPENDED THE CONSTITUTION, the National Assembly, the courts and all civil rights!

WHO has contempt for the rule of law? To ignore this egregious hypocrisy is to support it. The Associated Pukes support it, as they have proven time and time and time again.

I urge readers to beware of everything in this article; to be particularly wary of all AP articles on Latin America, and to be generally wary of our corpo/fascist press as a whole, on this subject. The NYT is as a bad as AP. There is NO trustworthy news source on Latin America anywhere in our corpo/fascist 'news' monopoly landscape.

Some antidotes:

www.venezuelanalysis.com
www.narconews.com
www.BoRev.net (accurate, and funny)
http://www.incakolanews.blogspot.com/ (mostly economic angle)

In fact, BoRev has comment on this very AP article today.

They still haven't figured out the Bolivarian Circles. I guess thats to be expected, they are very rank conscious. They do not understand anything that is not hierarchal.

3. Oh, God. I just followed a link and saw a photo I've never seen before.
I have to post it here, to make sure it's documented in this forum. From BoRev:

Poor People Have Cameras Too, Lanny
By Revolter

Here we have a picture of Pedro Madriel Muñoz Salvador literally being dragged away by the Honduran military on July 24. And here again is the picture of his tortured, mutilated body, left out for all to see less than 12 hours later. The de facto government would try to say that he was arrested and released for smokin' pot, but you can only suppress the truth for so long when you put the most notorious death squad leader eva back in charge of security. No, really.

We remember seeing the next photo the moment it was released. The military denied responsibility, even though he was found lying in a field next to the military barracks.

Stop me if you've heard this story before:
1) Honduran coup government's security forces kill pro-Zelaya protester.

2) Honduran police anonymously admit to reporters that they or the military are responsible for the murders.

3) Micheletti and the gorillas tell police to STFU, officially deny any involvement, shamelessly blame own protesters for killing.

4) English language press somehow gives the coup regime the benefit of the doubt, even though they are proven pathological liars. They lightly report on the homicides, but bury part about how the coup government is responsible.

First it was Isis Obed Murillo. Despite the fact that the Honduran police blamed his shooting on the military, disgraced coup Minister Enrique Ortez and Otto Reich somehow managed to accuse his fellow protesters while maintaining straight faces. The English language press has still not called them out.

Pedro Madriel Muñoz avoided roadblocks to travel from Tegucigolpe and try to reach the border where Mel Zelaya is camped out. He didn't quite make it. On Friday, he and thousands of other Hondurans were stopped by police with tear gas and live bullets in El Paraiso, 7 miles from Nicaragua. Then Muñoz somehow showed up tortured and murdered on the side of a road (which also happens to be next to a military base) where the rest of the protesters could see his body. Central Americans know what this means. The US press thinks, "Gee maybe it wasn't the police/military. Let's wait for an investigation. Zelaya will be gone by then anyway. Muahahaha."

AFP's story in English: "Supporters of the ousted president accuse Honduran police of murdering the man."

AFP's story in Spanish (translated): "A Police official - who did not want to be identified - admitted to protesters and journalists in El Paraiso that the man was detained on Friday, but said it was for smoking marijuana, and maintained that he had been released afterwards."

4. That picture was printed in a golpista newspaper. Plus the
coroner put the time of death to when he was admittedly still in custody.

5. I guess they ran it with their lie that he was killed in some kind of drug dust up, too!
No doubt they didn't refer to the fact he was tortured and also found in the field by the military barracks. (So doubtful drug people would have tortured him, and risked themselves by going close to where the soldiers were quartered to ditch him body.)

Not to mention the fact everyone knew he was going there to participate in the demonstration.
