Colombia to continue supplying electric power and gas to Venezuela
Automation Plan will interconnect 100 pumps in Andean Táchira state

The Colombian government will keep on delivering electric power and gas to Venezuela, as set forth in the agreements, no matter that Venezuelan Minister of Energy and Petroleum Rafael announced his government decision to stop the provision of subsidized gasoline for Norte de Santander and the Colombian Guajira.

Ramírez said on Wednesday that a supply agreement would not be renewed due to the deployment of US troops in Colombian military bases.

However, according to a press release posted on the website of the Colombian Ministry of Energy, the Colombian minister promised not to discontinue the delivery to Venezuela neither of 70 MW of energy on the Cúcuta-Táchira line, nor 250 mcf/d of gas through the bi-national gas pipeline stretching from Guajira to Maracaibo, the capital city of eastern Zulia state.

Also, the Colombian government ensured gasoline supply for the Colombian border towns, AP quoted.

The bilateral agreement established the supply of Venezuelan gasoline for Colombia and concomitant provision by Colombia of electric power and gas.

Further, Gladys Parada, the manager of the Domestic Market, Venezuelan Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, vowed to fight gasoline smuggling into Colombia, and insisted that fuel supply in Táchira and Zulia states is ensured.

Parada added that the military troops involved in the operations will patrol the border areas at night to enforce the provisions.

She said that the Automation Plan will help interconnect initially 100 gas stations in Táchira with the trucks through the global positioning system.

"Táchira receives 100 million liters a month on average. We note that current volumes do not match with the vehicle fleet handled by the Venezuelan Terrestrial Transport Board."
