The author offers well chosen quotes from Alexander Hamilton and José Martí. (Hilariously, the radical right reactionaries in Florida insist they are kindred spirits with José Martí, the same people who maintained a hideously racist culture in Cuba AND in Miami).

Nelson Valdés is highly respected, and this article reflects his depth, and strength of character.

How did things get this ugly, anyway? The pattern goes back so unbearably far.
