Clinton defends US Haiti relief
Clinton defends US Haiti relief

Tuesday, January 26, 2010

WASHINGTON, United States — Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Tuesday she resents criticism of the level of US effort to help stricken Haiti, and pledged to redouble efforts to defend the US commitment to helping Haitian survivors of the January 12 earthquake.

"I deeply resent those who attack our country, the generosity of our people and the leadership of our president in trying to respond to historically disastrous conditions after the earthquake," Clinton said.

"Some of the international press either misunderstood or deliberately misconstrued what was a civilian and military response — both of them necessary in order to be able to delivery aid to the Haitians who desperately needed it," Clinton told a gathering of State Department employees.

She was not more specific about the source of the criticism but was notably direct in addressing it.

2. Yesterday, I emailed the people at the ClintonBushHaitiFund
and asked them if they could tell me who was on their board or if the two presidents' foundations were simply sharing the work, which seems unlikely.

There's something about all of this that stinks to me but,

then how come she'll redouble the efforts given she was good as saying it was ok in the first place. :sarcasm:

The international press did not "misunderstand or deliberately misconstrue" the reponse. They were on the spot and reported live first hand. The fact that those in the USA may subsequently have watched/read sanitised news is another issue.
