President Hugo Chavez's naming of a heavyweight Cuban official to help fix Venezuela's electricity crisis has fired up his opponents at a politically volatile time for the South American nation.

Power rationing since late 2009 has emerged as a major problem for the OPEC member nation of nearly 29 million people, threatening its ability to pull out of recession and weighing on Chavez's popularity ahead of a September legislative poll.

After days of protests last week in which two students died, thousands of government and opposition supporters again rallied on Thursday, the 18th anniversary of a failed coup by Chavez that launched his political career.

"Keep trying to topple our revolutionary government with your white hands," Chavez said in reference to students who paint their hands white in marches against the government...

Crime, health crisis, electricity crisis, water crisis, inflation, government corruption, and now the government tells us they're so incompetent they have to ask for help from a Cuban to figure out how to get the electricity back. This is something many of us knew all the time, Chavez is surrounded by people who are unfit for their jobs. And Cubans are experts at nothing, except getting themselves on rafts to go to Miami. So God help us, we're led by an incompetent man who surrounds himself with incompetents, and imports incompetent Cubans to help.

Instead of attempting to deflect from the issue of Chavez appointing a Cuban to address Venezuela's power problem?

Marcos Rosales, one of the two students, was a Nuevo Tiempo leader. He was shot when he left a bus, wasn't in a demonstration or anything. This means he was shot by Chavez supporters.

We will vote Chavez out of office. Your friend, as we say, esta ponchao. Too many mistakes, insufficient brains, defficient ideas to lead the country. We will take Congress this year, make sure he is not able to rule like a king, and then we will force him out in 2012. And never, ever again will we allow a man like that to be president. he is terrible.

About the punishment of criminals in this country, everybody knows the crime rate is very high because there is no punishment. Young men know they can kill you and they will very likely not suffer for it. This happens because in the last 10 years, when the problem became worse and worse, the government did nothing about it. There is no justice for the victims, all the families can do is go stand in line to pick up the corpse at the city morgue. Unless they kill a national guard or government official. In that case they come to the barrio and make sure the case is solved in 24 hours.

And maybe you should not insult people here, the way you do, when they say things you don't like. I don't know what you mean by calling me agent provocateur. Does it make you mad because I tell the truth?

Putting a guy who has no experience in the electric utility field in charge of Venezuelan electric utilties makes as much "sense" as putting a horse show organizer in charge of FEMA.

Venezuela has hundreds of trained engineers and probably dozens of knowledgeable people who could manage local and regional power grids. Putting in a guy whose creds include being a top policeman makes little economic or engineering sense.

That Cuban is coming over to make sure the protests are stopped. The problem now is too serious for the government, they tried to ration electricity in Caracas, and the people became so enraged in the barrios, Chavez was scared and ordered the rationing stopped. So now they bring the Cuban to make sure the National guard and other repression machines are ready when they cut the electricity supply. They have no solution, because there is no water in the Guri dam, and the other plants are broken down.
