Ecuador is taking Colombia to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the principal judicial organ of the United Nations, in a dispute between the two South American countries over the alleged aerial spraying of toxic herbicides around their common border.
In an <"http://www.icj-cij.org/docket/files/138/14470.pdf">application filed with the <"http://www.icj-cij.org/presscom/index.php?p1=6&p2=1">ICJ yesterday in The Hague, where the court is based, Ecuador said that spraying by Colombia "has already caused serious damage to people, to crops, to animals, and to the natural environment on the Ecuadorian side of the frontier, and poses a grave risk of further damage over time."
