Colombia's People-Powered Campaign
Colombia's People-Powered Campaign

It is difficult to some extent to give you an idea how different the Antanas Mockus campaign in Colombia really is in part because of the language barrier but this home-video produced is in English and speaks to the points that have galvanized Colombians to a degree never before seen.

-> YOU TUBE VIDEO .56 long. <-

This is a grass roots campaign. The Partido Verde was founded in October 2009 and barely has any infrastructure. It is fairly well-organized in Bogotá, home to one in six Colombians, but elsewhere it lacks offices and campaign staff. The party has just one paid staff member in most of Colombia's 32 departments though the party has now gained the infrastructure of Sergio Fajardo in Medellín when he was selected as Antanas Mockus' running mate.

Lacking a central structure, it is average citizens, all volunteers, who are creating content from videos to posters to organizing "flash mob rallies" on behalf of Antanas Mockus and the Greens. This is the most decentralized campaign that I have been associated with. But the rather amazing aspect is that with so little guidance how much on the same page we all are.

And not just in Colombia, with 4.5 million Colombians living outside Colombia, they are holding rallies around the world with recent rallies in New York, Barcelona, Paris, Geneva, Milan and Brisbane (Australia). Every rally is recorded on video and then posted both on Facebook and YouTube.
