Ecuador backs Peru proposal for reduced military spending during OAS assembly
During his official speech in the OAS 40th General Assembly, currently held in Lima, Ecuadorian Chancellor, Ricardo Patiño, backed Peruvian proposal of reducing military spending in the region, and said that it is necessary to improve coexistence and development of Latin American countries.

He remarked that this will allow “to have more resources available to finance social projects and programs of economic development.”

Patiño also said that Ecuador and Perú are an example of how Latin American countries have to “keep on building peace” with concrete actions like clearing the borders from all the land mines, instead of “rhetorics.”

It's too bad that the warmongering leaders of Venezuela and Colombia will not sign on.
