Venezuela demands US transparency on terrorism

Venezuela: The United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) urged the US Government Monday to act without double standards in the international struggle against terrorism in the wake of protection granted to Luis Posada Carriles.

"We cannot have a double discourse of good and bad terrorists. This has a lot to do with the US protection to Posada Carriles," said Vice President of PSUV Diosdado Cabello.

In 2005, Venezuela requested the extradition of Posada Carriles, a terrorist responsible for blowing up a Cuban airliner with 73 people on board in 1976.

According to Cabello, respecting transparency in the struggle against terrorism, Salvadorian Francisco Chavez Abarca was deported to Cuba.

Last Wednesday, Caracas sent Chavez Abarca to Havana, where he had planted bombs in the Melia Cohiba hotel in 1997 and hired the perpetrators of other attacks, causing damages and the death of an Italian tourist.
