Journalist group urges Attorney General to investigate US funding of opposition NGOs
CARACAS, Tuesday July 13, 2010

The pro-government group Movimiento por el Periodismo Necesario (Movement for Necessary Journalism) thinks that the US State Department would be funding a campaign to destabilize Venezuela in an election year

Members of the Movement for Necessary Journalism urged on Tuesday the Attorney General Office to initiate an investigation into the alleged US funding of Venezuelan journalists and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs).

Arín Rodríguez, a member of the group, said that he filed a request at the Attorney General Office to commence an investigation into a complaint related to the alleged foreign funding of some Venezuelan NGOs, journalists working in private media, political parties, and opposition sectors. The funding would be used for "a campaign of destabilization" in an election year, the state-run news Agencia Venezolana de Noticias (AVN) said.

Rodríguez added that the documents "prove" that the US Department of State has granted USD 4 million to the Press and Society Institute (Ipys), in Venezuela, as well as NGO Espacio Público (Public Space).

1. Hugo should make foreign funding in this respect illegal
if not already so. Then round up any recipients and lock 'em up out of harms way.

The US has done quite enough destabilizing in Latin America in the past.

2. Are the NGO's listed as foreign agents? Use them as trading stamps.

3. I'm glad to see somebody fighting back against this sneaky form of U.S. warfare.
And wtf is our gov't doing spending our tax dollars for psyops, disinformation and destabilization of Venezuela with millions of newly unemployed, newly homeless people here, drastic cuts in schools, hospitals, emergencies services and public services of every kind, our infrastructure crumbling, small businesses going under everywhere you look, our manufacturing capability crippled, the Gulf of Mexico destroyed by deregulation, and our war criminals and master thieves--the massive looters of the public coffers--running around free to plot their return to overt power?

There are even worse purposes that our money is being used for--new U.S. military bases in Colombia, Honduras, Panama and the Caribbean, and new (recently disclosed) U.S. military exercises in Costa Rica (!)--and neither this nor the massive theft of our money for CIA-controlled "NGOs" in Venezuela and other Latin American countries gets adequate--or, for that matter, any--attention from the corpo-fascist press. But this use of the U.S. taxpayer funded USAID to support RIGHTWING causes in Latin America countries has always struck me as particularly disgusting because it strikes at the heart of free speech, public discourse and democracy. The HYPOCRISY of it is staggering.
