Colombian law stipulates that searches and arrests can only be made between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. So a two-year investigation went down the drain with the judge's ruling that the arms traffickers had lost a few hours of sleep.
The 26 men that the judge freed were arrested between 3;30 a.m. and 6 a.m. They included seven active military officers, 12 retired military (including a colonel) and one WITCH.
The arms-trafficking network consulted with the WITCH before making any deliveries to the guerrillas, El Tiempo reported. (No other details given on the WITCH.)
The weapons were stolen from Colombian army bases (not purchased abroad as Colombia Reports says in its story).
