~snip~
Whether Carrasco was just trying to win a free kick or get 19-year-old KAA Genk striker Montano sent off is something only he will know. But with around 13 minutes left he grabbed Montano's left hand and slapped himself in the face with it.
Falling to the ground as if hit by gunfire, Audar Italiano defender Carrasco wins a free kick but the referee incredibly fails to brandish a card of any colour for what he must have regarded as violent conduct to punish with a free kick.
Recovering within a second, red-faced (red-cheeked at the very least) Carrasco gets up and trots away from the scene of the crime with a level of cynicism that does little to detract from the South American reputation (we all recall Diego's 1986 vintage and Rivaldo's 2002 fake facial injury) but certainly belies his tender age of 20.
It was certainly a slap in the face for football as well as Carrasco and to compound his felony, the whole thing was picked up on TV and played again and again by disbelieving pundits.
