Honduran police use tear gas, water cannon to break up protest that blocked avenue
By Associated Press, Monday, March 28, 10:15 PM

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras — Honduran police using tear gas and water cannons dispersed a group of protesters who blocked a main avenue in the capital to demand the return of ousted former President Manuel Zelaya from exile.

The protests led by teachers are entering their third week in Honduras, where Zeyala was ousted in a 2009 coup. The teachers are demanding Zelaya be allowed to return from exile in the Dominican Republic.

They are also protesting a six-month delay in salary payments and a proposal to give local communities more control over the country’s highly centralized school system. The government says the protesters want to destabilize the country.

Students and striking health care workers were also at the protest Monday, said police spokesman Wilmer Suazo.

1. The AP is distorting the story

The AP lies about the protests' main objective is to demand the return of Zelaya.

The teachers have been protesting for three weeks to demand pay that has not been paid to them for several months.

Also, teachers are against pending legislation in Congress that would privatize portions of government-financed national education.

This is really really bad reporting by the AP, because the protests for the return of Zelaya happened in 2009 in the months after he was whisked out of the country.

Sheesh.

2. It's horrid. They pushed the false idea it's all about bringing Zelaya back,
and hid the facts behind a bogus opening.

How can these creeps get by with this? Because the right-wingers control our government, and the corporate media.

I looked for other stories in English from tonight about the striking teachers, for LBN, and I got nada. This was it at the time.

I was forced to add the story from last week about the teacher who was killed by getting a tear gas cannister to the head, then falling only to be smashed by the police water cannon truck. The article points out she was killed by head injuries.

Stinking right-wingers.
