Second round of elections in Peru: democracy or dictatorship
They will choose between the nacionalist candidate Ollana Humala for Gana Perú (the winner of the first round on the 10th of April), whose programme of government is focused on the transformation of Peru; and Keiko Fujimori the candidate of Fuerza 2011, daughter of ex-president Fujimori now imprisoned for crimes against humanity, who apart from some proposals to improve social benefits, is in favour of maintaining the current model of privatization inaugurated by her father during the decade of the 1990’s.

In contrast to the first round, the political debate is centred not on the economic model but on issues concerned with the democratic control of institutions, corruption, impunity and human rights.

The reason for this is due to the fact that the candidacies of Ollanta Humala and Keiko Fujimori represent opposite positions with respect to urgent questions like corruption and human rights.

However, the issue which most concerns the majority of political forces of the country is the possibility of the return of the criminal machinery which was Fujimontesinismo, the same alliance which carried out the coup of 1992, systematically violated human rights, and helped themselves from the national treasury.

The amount stolen is estimated at 6 billion dollars.
