In honor of this new awesome group, I'd like to introduce you to this other awesome group

Hi everybody,

Since this is a group about civil rights activism, I thought I would help start it out by introducing y'all to a bunch of criminals, rabble rousers, and all around trouble makers. They are known as "One Struggle, One Fight." Their purpose is to overturn Prop. 8 in my once great state of California. They are constantly coming up with new marches, activities, causes, and individuals that need championing. And yes, they do plan and execute non-violent civil disobedience in the traditions of Martin Luther King and Gandhi.

On may 26th of this year, the day the California Supreme Court issued it's ruling upholding Prop. 8, more than 200 people sat down and blocked an intersection in San Francisco's Civic Center. All of them were arrested, and I was one of them. I posted about it on DU the day it happened. Thanks to OSOF's lawyer, I have so far not faced any criminal repercussions from that action. Everything they do is non-violent and peaceful, and they do more more than just civil disobedience. They also welcome anybody that's interested in joining the cause, I myself am straight.

In addition to being well organized and energetic, they are also a very cool group of folks. You've never heard so much laughter during a mass arrest in your life, let me tell 'ya.

Anyways, that's about all. If you have any questions about them or civil disobedience for marriage equality, feel free to ask me.

1. You guys are great
My wife and I were in SF for the decision and stopped by your protest on our way out though we didn't hang out for the entire thing. You may have even seen me--I was the one handing out the "Can I Vote On Your Marriage Now?" buttons. We definitely admire what you're doing.

3. Thanks
I definitely saw people wearing those buttons around, but I'm afraid I didn't see who was handing them out. You didn't miss much except to eventually see us all get cuffed and taken away in vans!

2. that's what we need
I am a little too old and sick to spend much more time in jail, but I was active in the 60's with GLF

4. We were only in jail for a few hours
They held us in these barricaded pens in an outdoor sally port that was kind of like a big cage. But we didn't know that that was what was going to happen when we woke up that morning. We were all fully prepared to spend the night or maybe longer in jail. Wish I could tell you that it would always be like that, but the truth is, you never know what's going to happen at these things.

5. Thank you for doing this--and for posting information about your group!
I am going to provide this link to the kids I work with at our high school GSA. It is vital that gay kids all over the country see that people are truly standing up. They need constant inspiration and support. Knowing there are people leading a fight like this empowers those who feel they have no one on their side. Many heartfelt thanks!

6. Here's something else you can give them
http://www.youtube.com/user/1struggle1fightblog

That's their youtube page. Of particular interest to them might be the interviews with members in the bottom left hand corner. Take Maya for example. I've met her a few times at the meetings.

She's only 17, and about 100,000 times smarter than I was at her age. It might give them some inspiration to know that kids their age are getting involved.

:hi:
