I told you so .... (the GOP will turn to Thune to save them)
Edited on Wed Jan-13-10 12:05 PM by SuperTrouper
Many months ago I said that John Thune was going to be a rising Presidential star and some told me that I was barking up the wrong tree and that Thune would lose South Dakota in 2010. Fair enough, but I think that a ticket with Thune at the top would be very formidable and may even pose a major threat to President Obama, especially with the Independents. A Thune-Hutchison ticket is a strong possibility, forget Palin, Romney, and Huckabee. And now we see an article pointing out that Thune indeed is in the mix for the GOP nomination in 2012. And by the way, I do not think that Biden will run for re-election as Obama's VP...expect Hillary Clinton to take that slot.

3. They do appear to be grooming him for something. Getting his face
out there just enough not to overexpose him.

I am not sure for 2012.

4. Thune sounds like a moderate, something the GOP isn't accepting right now

5. Whatever they end up with must have Palin on the ticket or the base will go berserk.

8. how it might play out....
.... the powers that be push Thune (or someone similar) resulting in a bitter primary between the GOP establishment and the teabaggers who are pushing Palin. Palin wins the primary .... and then it gets scary. :)

6. As someone who's accused of being a "Hillary hater," if she DOES become Obama's VP,
their ticket will beat Thune/Hutchison by a blow-out.

9. Wrong about Biden and Hillary.
However, I think you might be right about Thune.

10. Oh and do you have a crystal ball to know all of this?
Thune, perhaps, he has a certain look, but the "elitist look" usually does not appeal to the Repub base. They want someone like themselves. And Hutchinson is running for Governor. If she loses-who knows, but she doesn't seem like a strong choice in my opinion- not after Chaney. Usually the VP is the one who is suppose to defend the candidate for President.
And, as for Biden and Clinton. I don't get any indications that Biden does not like being VP. And, for Hillary-wasn't she supposedly offered this spot before and turned it down? Why would Obama think it would be a stronger ticket with her as the VP choice?
