Poll question: How do Boomers and Gen X'ers feel about the prez?
I know there are more than Boomers and Gen X'ers on DU, but I'm curious about the political perspectives of these two generations particularly.

So... Boomers and X'ers, how do you feel about the prez?

6. Ha! I get woken up every morning by 7am by my 4 and 5 year olds.
When I get to be 60, I want to sleep in on the weekends again.

10. I'm 62, retired almost 3 years. I got up at 5:30 this morning.
Of course, I went back to bed about 2 hours ago, along with my wife, the dog and the cat.

32. i think there are a lot more boomers based on previous polls
asking about age. i was surprised since i assumed it's an internet poll most would be younger. but it's been done a few times and i think there were a lot more boomers than others.

3. Boomer here. None of your categories match my view. From the beginning, I have
expected Obama to attempt to reconstruct the political center in the US, while under constant and enormous pressure to conform to existing establishment views. I think it is OUR responsibility to craft meaningful grassroots organizations that can apply counter-pressure to the Executive and Legislature, to obtain our goals. If we fail to do so, then ordinary political realities guarantee we lose -- and that's not Obama's fault; it's just the way things are

Is Obama himself a Boomer or Xer? I'm a few months older than he is. Is there an official ruling on who's which?

12. I'm 45 and in between

the boomers and the x-ers.The boomers screwed us by getting taking all the good jobs for themselves. and the x-ers screw us by saying that they are the future. People between 40-46 get stuck in the middle and get screwed by both.

18. Technically a boomer; born in 1960.
"Unsatisfied" is unsatisfyingly weak.

"Disgusted" is closer.

thinking he would do something about health care and the wars.

Zero for two, so far.

Hey, any good democrats running for Prez in 2012?

but I wish he would be more forceful. I don't like the wishy-washy, "can't we all just get along," bend over backwards to be conciliatory BS.

I've been looking for some serious change for going on 45 years now, and I'm tired of waiting. Not much good has happened since the Civil Rights laws were passed.

27. The ratio of those disappointed to those not is about the same.
Close to three times as many are less than satisfied compared to those who are satisfied, for both generations.

28. Which raises a curious point
Does their level of satisfaction/dissatisfaction reflect experiences, observations of- or lessons drawn with previous Democratic administrations?

It surely does in this GenX'rs case (as it does with other friends and colleagues from these two age demographics).

34. I think so.
I can compare him to JFK, LBJ, Carter and Clinton.

Xers can only compare him to Clinton. The Xers are slightly more harsh than boomers in this survey, probably because we can compare him to more than Clinton.

Clinton certainly had a bad year his first year, but having Clinton was like having Joe Namath as your quarterback. Even when you were losing, you knew he could pull it out with a fantastic play.

President Obama does not seem to have that quality, although it could happen, I suppose.
