1. Well, it's his and his people's fault for leaking what he was going to
say...they should not have given any hints as to what it was going to be about if they don't want people to speculate.

5. .. assuming that what's being 'leaked' is what's gonna be said...
.. nothing like some disinformation to make foolish people look more foolish.

and why the HELL would someone UNREC common sense? Find out what's said before making a decision?

11. is "leaked" the right word? I suspect it's closer to "floated"...
Edited on Wed Jan-27-10 02:10 PM by hughee99
I think they started floating ideas a recently to see if any would gain traction. Those that get a good general response from "key demographics" will find their way into the SOTU. I think they want people to speculate about what he might say, because it gives the writers a better idea of what people want to hear him talk about.

The SOTU is an opportunity for him to make a case to the people, why would they want to decide what to talk about without getting as much input as possible (as much as they can without looking like they're just sticking their finger in the wind)?

2. You expect people to refrain from speculating on a political message board?
I don't think that's realistic.

Come back in a year or two, when the President is STILL the President, and see what's what.

7. I reckon we'll get words, and promises, and verbal razza-ma-taz.
Been there, done that. Yes, the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. Gee, I can't wait.

Oh yeah, I gave your thread an UnRec based simply on your whining about an UnRec. Of course nobody believes their thread deserves an UnRec.

9. Irrational outrage needs momentum ...

Gotta work up to that, ya see. It doesn't pay to wait until everything has been fleshed out. Someone else might grab your newly minted cutesy phrase of the day and claim it as their own if you wait.

In all seriousness, we do have a bit of a communications failure with all this. Something was leaked by "someone," but initially the White House had no comment, which I imagine means they were working on packaging their message. This was a mistake because in the vacuum, the message was made for them, and now they're having to react to it.

10. Because the last year has shown clearly that Obama's character is that of a
talker. It is most emphatically not that of a doer. Most people recognize by now that the man is all talk and not much else. That's why.

it seems a lot of people are saying the same thing.

I'll stick with my original response.

12. Judge a candidate by what he says he will do if elected, . .
. . . judge a President by what he has in fact done.

I expect it will be a good speech tonight.
But what he says tonight doesn't matter much to me.
We all know he can talk the talk.

My wife and I donated hundreds to his campaign
but, so far, I haven't seen very much in return.

Whether we continue to support him now hinges not on what he says,
but on what he does, or fails to do.

20. I tend to hold Obama to the same standard that I hold...
little Dennis Kucinich to:

Judgement comes from actions actually taken. To date, from both of these gentlemen, we have had lots of words...rivers of them actually. To date, not much in the way of action that the country, and it's citizens, need.

Jobs
Single-Payer National Health Plan
...the list is almost endless and we are now a year further into the muck and mire.

Words never solved a problem. Both of these gentlemen are full of words.

24. Because we on the left don't have the discipline or patience to microwave a pop-tart.
We want what we want and we want it yesterday.

And ... while we claim to be optimistic ... we can be extremely cynical and quick to sulk.

And then when we sulk ... we wonder why democratic "leaders" cave in ... here's a hint ... its because we send them mixed signals. They are not sure that they can count on US to accept ANY PROGRESS they make.

So they waffle ... and then when it gets messy ... the other side closes ranks, and we run around like yippy dogs.

I've posted this same basic description in more threads than I can count in the last few days ... so if you've seen most of this already ... sorry to repeat it.

But I believe it completely.
