5. They can run, but the tea party still has control
They've picked off some of the GOP base.

6. I don't see them running away from the tea baggers and birthers. Steele is embracing
them. IMO, they are using teabaggers as their driving force. Fox "News" promotes them, Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck are their inspiration.

8. Republicans will still be hypocrites and try to have it both ways.
Edited on Sun Jan-31-10 07:20 PM by ProSense
The fact is being associated with the lunatics isn't good for them (see NY 23). They have to find a way to give the impression, as they did on the recent purity test, that they're not ceding to the lunatics.

13. I know.
I was just hoping we could milk the whole teabagger thing into 2012. Too many of them are catching on too soon.

12. I think they'll
keep them right up until the next cycle of elections start. That way they'll have the maximum amount of time to whip them up with propaganda, but still claim they aren't the teabaggers in the hopes of fooling people that have short attention spans. Then they hope like hell enough of the propaganda stuck to make them vote R after they're shunned.

Then again no matter how cynical I become, I never can quite guess how low they're willing to sink.

Boehner to GOP: Embrace the Tea Parties
By David Weigel 1/29/10 4:13 PM

This nugget from Jake Sherman and Patrick O’Connor’s preview of the House GOP retreat deserves more attention.Boehner to GOP: Embrace the Tea Parties

{House Minority Leader John} Boehner has told his rank and file to embrace the so-called tea party movement “because it will be critical as we proceed,” according to excerpts from his remarks.

I’ve been reporting for months on how, despite the non-partisan origins of the movement, the Tea Party will inevitably do the GOP more good than the Democrats.

19. I would like to see how the Repukes play this come election time. Will their party fracture?
My guess is that marginal or vulnerable Repukes will distance themselves from the tea parties, while "safe" Repukes will embrace them. Boehner has no fear of losing his seat, so of course he'll embrace the tea baggers. Scott Brown, on the other hand, needs to tread lightly on that ground. He actually could end up being a formidable force if the Repukes allow him to play the "moderate" game just as McDonnell and Ritchie did. Liars!! It's such a fucking charade.

22. I'd love to see
the Tea Party folks and the Republicans go at it. Let's encourage it. I certainly plan on encouraging the Republicans to pass all their people through the "purity" test.

23. Well, the tea partiers are some of the most naive idiots around. Of course the GOP
will use them when they need them then kick them to the curb when they are no longer useful. Half these people were Ron Paul supporters anyway.
