For the third straight cycle, the pro-choice Democratic women’s group EMILY’s List is getting involved in Washington’s 8th Congressional District, this time backing Democratic businesswoman Suzan DelBene today in her challenge of Rep. Dave Reichert (R).
“Her vast business experience and her work with nonprofit organizations set her apart from her competition and make her a great fit for the district. EMILY’s List is proud to endorse Suzan DelBene for U.S. Congress,” EMILY’s List President Stephanie Schriock said in a statement.
For a first-time candidate, DelBene has been one of the Democrats’ strongest fundraisers and is one of the few challengers to begin the year with more money in the bank than her opponent. She ended last year with $773,000 in her campaign account, while Reichert has banked only $477,000.
Reichert, representing a suburban Seattle district, is one of the few Republicans holding a seat that voted for both President Obama in 2008 and John Kerry in 2004. He defeated Microsoft executive Darcy Burner, an EMILY’s List favorite, with 53 percent of the vote in 2008.
