Palin: Obama could win votes by playing 'war card'
Associated Press

Sarah Palin says that if President Barack Obama "played the war card," he could improve his chances of being re-elected.

Palin says that declaring war on Iran or showing stronger support for Israel might convince voters that Obama is tougher than they think on national security and doing all he can to protect the U.S.

Otherwise, according to Palin, Obama won't be re-elected if he continues on his current path.

Palin was interviewed on "Fox News Sunday" _ the network where the former GOP vice presidential nominee is a paid commentator.

1. Declaring war on the GOP obstructionists would be a good start.

2. What is this freaking obsession with war by these RWers?
And with what military can we accomplish war on Iran with? It is spread too thin already. I need a drink and the Superbowl hasn't even started yet!

11. The current crop of republican cowards in congress come from
my generation, like McConnel, Cheney, Liebershits, Romney, et al. Most of them are draft dodging cowards refusing to serve during the Vietnam/Cold Wars. When LBJ laid the draft on us, the repukes scattered like cockroaches hiding from the light. Jump ahead 30 years, and now you have repuke keyboard commandos who can SCREAM war without risk of being in harms way.

Punks.

18. Very true. What is sad is even my conservative father went into the army
Edited on Sun Feb-07-10 10:39 AM by Jennicut
during Vietnam thinking he was going to get drafted anyway. I hate my father's politics but at least he was not a complete coward and then turning around and calling for war.

21. Since Nixon to be a Republican means being pro war.
Edited on Sun Feb-07-10 11:07 AM by Monk06
And there's no point in being pro war if you
aren't at war with somebody. And there are
lots of new conflicts being lined up by these
'Patriots'

My guess, Iran, Venezuela, and eventually Taiwan.

Anyone of which could flair up while the US is
preoccupied with Afghanistan, the not so secret
war in Pakistan and the still dysfunctional Iraq.

5. Yeah, and I'm sure he's going to listen up and pay heed to her sage advice.
Because (attention, TALKING POINT AHEAD) Democrats are WEAK ON DEFENSE, and if Obama runs for election without convincing Americans that he can KEEP THEM SAFE, he will be defeated by a Republican, because Republicans are STRONG ON DEFENSE and Republicans can KEEP US SAFE.

Keep repeating talking point until it can be chanted by heart mindlessly by American population.

It's the Republican way.

7. He could declare war on partisanship
Use the bully pulpit to call out every instance where the GOP as been partisan.

He has had a good start on that since just before the State of the Union.

10. The NY Times gave Sarah a front
page place including her picture. They asked for comments on their coverage. I replied and I was the first one to reply. But, it seems NYT must have me on their throw her in at the last moment list as it still sits there after about 50 comments. This happens to me all the time. And I am not ugly about anything I say. I just speak the truth. Maybe they won't print it because one thing I wrote was After it was over did the ones who spent their money on grandstanders sing I WENT TO A RACIST PARTY. . . (apologies to the late Rick Nelson.

14. Perpetual War
Edited on Sun Feb-07-10 10:32 AM by 90-percent
Could we at least have a war that is actually justified on something other than complete lies and bullshit?

"War is a racket", as General Smedley Butler has said. It seems that most American wars after WW2 served no purpose other than absurdity? The only one that was decent was Gulf War One, where at least the cost and loss of life was relatively minor. Wham, bam, thank you ma'am in and out quickness and a international coalition that seemed to be willingly on our side.

Do we really need wars so bad we have them just for the sake of having wars?

Is it supporting our Troops to have them serve horrendous multiple tours to defend what amounts to BULLSHIT? We're getting close to what Germany, Russia and maybe Japan did in WW2, their servicemen were all expected to serve until the war ended or they were injured or killed. Our taxes are supporting our troops getting fed in to a war machine meat grinder.

True story - I was chatting with a stripper recently. Trying to get a read on our respective "misery indexes". Her small son had a learning disability and her boyfriend is back from Iraq with all his long term memory obliterated! The poor guy cannot remember any farther back than a half hour ago! What a waste of a perfectly good human life! And for what? (Ps - her income is half of what it used to be, but still six times my unemployment. I say good for her. At least somebody out there that's a working person is still making good money!)

War should only be the last resort only in the most dire of national circumstances. Waging war is just a stupid wasteful unenlightened way to go with solving international problems.

Wars based on treasonous bullshit are hard on the collective American psyche!

Obama could declare the entire world and Sarah and the Repubs would STILL be accusing Obama of being "soft" on defense and STILL won't vote for him. Thankfully, he won't be taking Sarah's *advice*. :eyes: NOTHING will apparently satiate the Republican's appetite for death, destruction, chaos, etc. They are like the Shadows from B5- endlessly wanting to "kick over anthills", albeit more for reasons of personal enrichment and electoral advantage. The symbol of the Republican Party really should be the Skull & Crossbones so that people would know to avoid them like the plague.
