Politico: Ben Nelson will back GOP filibuster
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0210/32705.html

Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) announced Monday evening that he will support a Republican-led filibuster over President Barack Obama's nominee to serve on the National Labor Relations Board.

The move is likely to infuriate labor groups who have fought hard for Craig Becker's nomination to serve on the five-member NLRB - and will likely give Republicans enough support to sustain a filibuster Tuesday.

“Mr. Becker’s previous statements strongly indicate that he would take an aggressive personal agenda to the NLRB, and that he would pursue a personal agenda there, rather than that of the administration,” Nelson said in a statement. “This is of great concern, considering that the board’s main responsibility is to resolve labor disputes with an even and impartial hand."

Nelson, a conservative Democrat up for reelection in 2012, has seen his approval ratings drop sharply since he lent his support for Obama's health care bill in December and secured deals for Nebraska's Medicaid payments.

2. It would be nice to get a little more progressive Senator from Nebraska
but considering that the last truly progressive Senator from that state was probably George Norris (the "Gentle Knight of Progressive Ideas"), who last served in 1943, it seems like an impossible dream.

3. Harry Reid needs to grow a spine about these filibusters.
Every Friday should be "lets see if the Repubs are ready to really filibuster" time.

Or maybe it's time for Reid to put the Senate in recess for some recess appointment fun.

5. HE has to appease the people in his home state since he is
a republican in democrat clothing. It is a shame there is not way to kick his butt out. But if he filibusters he should be kicked out of his chairmanship. And if Reid doesn't this is a terrible thing to say but he deserves to loose his seat.

6. He told us, the one's who fought for his re-election...
that he wasn't going to run in 2012. We thought that would move him a little further left...his chances in 2012 are about nil at this point; that essentially means a hard core R will fill the seat in 2012...:(

8. Essentially, that is correct...
but Nelson is actually flexible to an extent. The R's out here are fanatical, the next Senator from NE will most likely be out of the "teabagger" system. Nelson is bad...but what's most likely coming is horrid...:(

9. Bye Bye Nelson. Why support a Rethug over a Rethug? He is essentially already one.
