Another one? Senator Mikulski of Maryland to Retire
Forewarned, this is from a right winger's blog so I'm not sure if it could be considered reliable.

"I've just heard from an impeccable source that Barbara Mikulski, the Democratic Senator who is up for reelection this November, will choose to retire. Mrs. Mikulski is expected to make her formal announcement in the next few days.

Mrs. Mikulski seriously fractured her right ankle last fall just prior to Edward M. Kennedy's death. Due to the severity of the fracture, she had to have open reduction surgery, that included the insertion of pins, as well as the use of special surgical boots, during recovery. She had tried to arrive in time for Mr. Kennedy's funeral but was turned away.

Her recovery has been exceptionally slow and she is evidently still in a great deal of pain. Reportedly, she has told her physician that she does not desire to seek reelection. Additionally, friends and family have been saying in the near future she will announce her retirement. Because of the very slow recovery, she has been forced to use a wheelchair, a walker or a cane in order to get around."

I hope that it's just a right winger's wishful thinking. We can't afford to lose any more Democrats in Congress. Although, MD is not IN and another Dem would probably win her seat.

:-(

1. We would probably hold her seat
But yeah, we'd probably have to spend a little to defend it, which wouldn't be great.

The likely nominee would be Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown.

5. See Prosense's post below.
Conflicting info. I guess. Since you are in the state, what does the local rumor mill say?

10. Thanks
I still think that her seat would probably stay in Democratic hands if indeed she does choose to retire. But, it means more time and money spent campaigning for another candidate.

6. I see no valid source for this and Twitter is not all that
reliable. I hope it is wishful thinking. Please let it be! I will see if I can get some info from the MD Democratic Party.

7. I say Ehrlich goes for this Senate seat
rather than run against O'Malley for Governor. I think this would be a toss-up for what is now a safe seat.

12. Boy, you're fast!! LOL!!!
But, notice the date, it's from December. She could have changed her mind in the last two months. Let's just hope that she didn't and she still is running for reelection.

;)

13. She's my senator and a moderate Democrat. However,
if she is retiring, that seat would remain in Democratic hands.
