Dems Looking For GOP Votes On Jobs Bill; GOP Not Interested
Rachel Slajda | February 18, 2010

With a vote coming up Monday to begin debate on a jobs bill, Democrats are hoping they can get a few Republican votes for cloture. But the Republicans are looking to block the bill, even though they support its content, claiming instead that they've been mistreated by Democrats.

A Democratic leadership aide tells TPMDC that they're hoping to get Republicans, such as new Sen. Scott Brown, to oppose the will of the GOP leadership.

But an aide for Minority Leader Mitch McConnell would only say that it's "bizarre" Democrats aren't allowing amendments on the bill, especially after spending so much time talking about bipartisanship.

And as Roll Call reports today, Republican Senate leaders told more than 100 lobbyists yesterday that they plan to oppose the bill because of the process -- not because of the actual policy.

..........

WE are NOT surprised! Excuse me while I scream.......
:argh:

1. Someone mentioned in a previous post they should force the republicans to filibuster it
I personally don't think the Democrats have the integrity to do that

3. Saw this in the comment section:
From Tex:

"...make them filibuster and put the whole thing on C-SPAN. I also read that reconciliation can only be used once a session or possibly once a year and they may have to use it with HCR unless they can attach the jobs bill to that bill."

Anyone know if that is true about once a session?

4. Process, policy. What McConnell means to say is he wants to be an obstructionist
asshole but hey, it works, so why not? Obama needs to get tougher with them. Actually, we need Reid too but we need a new majority leader for that to happen.
