... I had fallen asleep listening to the right wingers convention and then all of a sudden I heard a voice (the CNN stream starts automatically apparently) and I was like "who in the world is that loud mouth" and then the loud mouth said, "he was with me in Denver and he helped me pass the Recovery act...." and I thought, "who else passed a Recovery atc?"

And then all of a sudden I was like OH!!!!!

ha ha

4. If only he would act the way he talks. He seems so passionate. It's becoming depressing to hear
him talk. It's like it's two different people. The one that tells us what we want to hear, then the one who thinks he can get republicans to help him. THey're not going to help, bold action is needed. Fearlessness is needed. Watching that CPAC thing should be an eyeopener for anyone that doubts there is no working w/ those people.

11. Don't be dramatic. I didn't say I wanted another president. I want this one to realize that the
people around him are dragging him down. THat all of our hopes are being shitted on because of dicks like Rahm and his ego. I'd take Howard Dean over Rahm Emanuel any day. The people Obama should be trying to work w/ he distance himself from(Dean). But continues to extend his hand to people who disrespects him any chance they get. I don't get it.

9. Obama is wrong to campaign for Bennet
There is a competitive primary going on in this state between Andrew Romanoff (former Speaker of the Colorado House, and the choice of the Colorado Democratic electorate, most polling showed, to replace Ken Salazar) and Michael Bennet (the unknown Superintendant of Denver Public Schools appointed by Gov Ritter to replace Salazar, a governor currently so unpopular that he decided against running for reelection).

Obama needs to stay the fuck out of Colorado politics.

24. Well, that's a different issue and not what the poster was arguing
Bennett may suck, but I think it's perfectly reasonable for President to back a candidate in a primary, even if he shouldn't back this particular one.

39. I don't think the national party - including the President - should take sides in a primary.
Leave it up to the Colorado Democrats to choose their candidate. Then if Obama wants to campaign for the winner in the general election, that would be entirely different circumstances.

But his presence now implies an "official" Democratic party endorsement of Bennet, and that just ain't right.

33. Ahem. I do.
Edited on Thu Feb-18-10 09:47 PM by Hawkeye-X
I'm a Colorado resident, and I do have a problem with who Obama supports during the primary. Michael Bennet is wholly unqualified to be an US Senator. He's like the Ronald Burris. Bennet is not well-known (or appreciated here) because Bennet is a carpetbagger East Coaster. Romanoff is a native Coloradan and knows the issues that is truly facing Coloradans.

Obama needs to stay the fuck out of local politics. Even if it's the U.S. Senate of Colorado position. Come primary day, my vote is going to Romanoff, and will easily defeat Bennet, and crush Norton in the general. I'm sure many Coloradans including the Colorado Democratic Party will be backing Romanoff all the way. Obama's mistake was to back all "incumbents" - would he back Roland effin' Burris if he chose to run for re-election? No.

This goes the same for Bennet - he was not the people's choice - selected by our disgraced Governor - Romanoff is, and will remain the people's choice.

22. I wouldn't expect you to find fault with anything Obama does
that's why no one takes you seriously anymore.

Why, in your opinion, if you actually have opinions rather than just rubber stamping anything Obama does, do you think it's ok for the President of the country and de facto leader of the party to take sides in a primary, especially when the incumbent was appointed to his position?

I mean, really, posting "bullshit" isn't much of an argument, even if it is your favorite one.

27. in 2012 he's going to have to "run it by" the voters in this state
he's also going to have to run it by the unions, the two biggest of which have endorsed Romanoff.

-----------------------------------

"Andrew Romanoff has rolled out a slate of new legislative support for his U.S. Senate bid, including two-thirds of the Democratic caucus in the Colorado House of Representatives.

House Majority Leader Paul Weissmann (D-Louisville) and Senate Majority Leader John Morse (D-Colorado Springs) top Romanoff’s endorsement list, which was rolled out at a press conference Friday.

"Andrew Romanoff is the epitome of what a United States senator should be: a bright, young, articulate statesman who leads by example," said State Rep. Edward Casso in a statement.

Romanoff, who served in the Colorado House for eight years and was Speaker for four, also touted the backing of 30 former state lawmakers, including former House Speaker Ruben Valdez and former House Minority Leader Ruth Wright.

"Congress doesn’t function much like Colorado – or the rest of America, for that matter," Romanoff said. "They don’t have to balance a budget. They don’t have to worry about their health insurance. They act as if they had all the time in the world. Well, they don’t. And we don’t. Many of the issues we face – health care, the economy, climate change – are literally matters of life and death. So let me put this as plainly as possible, so that the powerbrokers and party bosses in D.C. can understand: If you won’t get this country moving again, then step aside. We will.”

On Thursday, two of the state’s largest unions – the Teamsters and the United Food and Commercial Workers – announced they were backing Romanoff.

Romanoff is attempting to defeat appointed Sen. Michael Bennet in the Democratic primary in a race that Republicans increasingly view as an opportunity to pick up a Senate seat.

An early February Rasmussen Reports survey showed Romanoff eight points behind leading Republican Jane Norton, while Bennet trailed the former lieutenant governor by 14 points.

The Colorado primary is Aug. 10."

------------------------

Is Obama really this clueless?

That's just a rhetorical question, btw....

34. He can intervene with politics
but he has to stay out of a contested primary - where the challenger was the Colorado Democratic Party's choice to replace Salazar, and instead a unknown was selected by the Governor - for what reason or how much he pocketed for it, I'll never know.

10. Watching him, one thing is clear....
.... after watching the CPAC-ers most of the day.

Everything he said is meant to build the listener up. Sure, he's throwing some red meat in lately bashing the GOP, but the overwhelming majority of what he says is about the audience member and (as a part of the country as a whole) and what WE can do for the common GOOD.

The CPAC-ers, meanwhile, bash and smash and tare others down, negativity, negativity, negativity.

They'll never get it ..... it's not the teleprompters .... it's the message that's on them.

I'm glad Sen. Bennett wrote the letter on the public option now, but even in the late spring he was pretty uncommital about it. In addition, his vote against cram-down in the Housing Bill is inexcusable to me.

Feh. He should be campaigning for Andrew Romanoff, not Bennet.

I don't care if Bennet penned the letter to Reid supporting public option. Too little too late.

Romanoff would have been crushing Reid's balls and telling (or yelling at him) to support the Public Option or get out of his way!
