Obama was stupid to promise that health care negotiations should be televised
For starters, it's not a promise that he is in a full capacity to keep: Obama has no authority to command the old dinosaurs in Congress who frankly like making back room deals in smoke filled rooms, as they have done business this way their whole careers.

But secondly, you run into the opposite problem if you televise everything when a bunch of politicians are in the room. What will they do? That's right, showboat for the cameras. And then instead of a real working session where something might actually get done, you get a bunch of politicians playing to the cameras so they can win the next news cycle and get in the best YouTube moments.

I don't fault Obama for breaking the promise. I fault him for making it in the first place.

1. He wants to publically show us that he will screw us with no public option
Edited on Tue Feb-23-10 10:17 PM by still_one
no pre-existing condition clause for 4 years, and a lot of other options that won't kick in until later

The Democrats are blowing it big time

Thanks for nothing

We should have NEVER lost MASS. but we did. Tim Kaine is still on the job. what does that say?

The President after 1 year of being told by the repugs they don't want bipartisan ship, still wants bipartisanship

I don't have much confidence, I am glad you do

6. You can continue as you have been doing....
cause all of your complaining before, now and later ain't gonna get you shit.....
which is about what you get now!

Right now, today, insurance is not available to anyone with a pre-existing condition at all, unless they are hired by an employer, wait 12 months, and their employer isn’t priced out of the market altogether by a pre-existing condition.
http://ushealthcrisis.com/2009/12/pre-existing-conditions-ratings-and-exclusions/

So keep right on gripping endlessly so that you can ensure that you get to keep what you now have,
which is absolutely nothing to speak of.

Edited on Tue Feb-23-10 10:33 PM by eleny
I'm not all that thrilled with the proposed legislation. But they got a taste of what they're up against a few weeks ago.

By the time it's over, they're going to be a collective, drooling mess. Thursday's event will have them sucking on their lapels while they run their fingers through the carpeting.

13. I think this is a brilliant move. The rethugs get to prove how
invested they are in helping citizens of this country, and we get to watch. Why do you think the gop is so nervous about this? I think it's because they don't have a leg to stand on and are about to be exposed-politely, of course.

14. Well, if you're going to make such a statement- then it's not too smart to make backroom deals
with the likes of PhARMA.

Someone's bound to catch you on it and say:

:wtf:

to show for themselves.

16. Explain how he crushed the House GOP members last month??
We all know that the GOP does not want to make ANY changes to the health care industry.

They have ZERO viable ideas, and have been forced to resort to LYING endlessly to keep the bill from being reconciled.

The GOP members go on Fox, or CNN, and they LIE and LIE and LIE ... and they are rarely called it for it.

It will be very hard for them to LIE, and not get caught, in this forum, just as we saw during the GOP House retreat.

19. Government works in a totally different way in the light of day
It's true that they may be showboating for the cameras, and the outcome may be different. But even showboating may lead to results when they realize the public is not just watching what they do but also taking note of the consequences of what they accomplish. It will remain to be seen if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

21. Here's why Democrats don't get what they want even in power
They start trying to be President instead of supporting the President.

Yes, you have to march in lockstep to get something done. If you can do it to get Dems elected, you can do it so they have maximum support while in power.

But no, we've spent one year now just picking and judging and claiming we know how to handle the strategy better. WE couldn't do it either, if we were the subject of picking and poking and constant criticism of our methods.

Progressives do NOT want anything they claim to want as much as they want to play the victim. It's easier during a Republican Administration. But it can still be done during a Dem one.
